I don't see much wrong with the message itself. He does have the right to defend himself and the club, and if the Q&A was to happen would probably have as big an attendance as any LISA meeting for a while.

What I would say is that the tone of the message didn't do anyone any favours. The point was to repute any rumours that had started and be an invite to a meeting that would clear the air, or clarify any grievances in an open forum. Also, I suspect, the point was to make it clear to the public that the invitation was made. Could've been a short, fairly dry message, and would have far more of a desired impact.

He did right, the stuff being written is shocking and needs correcting. We have a mentality in this town to knock success, many are happy when things are poor - Little Leyther mentality. To the comment above who would rather be in admin - who buys us out of admin and where do we play, as it wont be LSV.

Nozzy I don't think Derek has done anything wrong. The Twitter thing may have got a bit out of hand but this isn't. I would think that if he did choose to ignore the comments these people would turn that situation around to suit their agendas.

I have never spoken to DB, I don’t do Facebook, I don’t feel any need to defend him, I would prefer us to be self-financing rather than vulnerable to the whim of one man, but until we are, I am grateful for DB and anyone else willing to put their money into my club, and to be honest I couldn't give a damn what other teams supporters think.

Me neither Tony, his message is spot on. Just not sure FB is the right place for it. Although as you say, leaving all of those lies and stories to go unchallenged could be just as damaging. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I am sick of all the detractors and the constant sniping at our club over every single thing and I am just a fan. Must be infuriating for the guys on the board putting considerable time and money into the club.

I have to say its a refreshing change reading this thread as the majority can read exactly what Derek wrote and what he meant. What makes it right for people to right scandalous things about him due to ill informed bitter rumours. Theres plenty secretly relishing our current troubles, come September they will be back in their cage unable to dampen a promotion party.

I quite like that we have an owner & director so approachable by the fans, I like that he's a bit of a character and enjoys some of the banter & fun that makes RL such a great sport to be a fan of. His commitment to the club in terms of finances, time, work & the success he's brought is unquestionable. However some people seem unable to tell the difference when he's being serious, when he's hyping up the club and when he's making a joke and so without actually reading what he has to say just assume he's the devil incarnate & can only slag him off. Case in point:

However I do sometimes wish he didn't always have to have the last word. He absolutely loves the club & is a die hard passionate fan first & foremost. It must annoy him even more than it annoys us when people make up lies and rubbish about Leigh & he's never been one to let something go unchallenged, people with nothing better to do know this & deliberately try to get a response so they can slag him off some more. Do think sometimes he should just shrug some things off, laugh at the trolls, ignore them and focus his attention on all the fans that like him support Leigh Centurions RLFC & just want to enjoy being a part of what's being done at the club.

The filth and abuse being directed at DB on FB following thea test loverugbyleague article is shocking. In all my years in Rugby league I have never seen this sort of abuse and behaviour from opossing fans. It's no wonder Dan reacts sometimes. I would also advise him to ban all correspondents from that publication from the LSV.

I haven't read anything else from him so i`m not too sure what most are referring to on this thread.

I did find his comment about your away following funding the whole Batley teams wages (Or something along those lines) particularly disrespectful, I just don't think there is any need for it at that level. If our chairman come out with something like that I would feel a little embarrassed.

I think he was trying to make the point about a good away following being good for other clubs, and tried to quantify it to give context. Trouble is, it came across as patronising and was pretty much irrelevant to the post as well.
