Quick ramble (promise). Stuck in traffic and horrible heat on the way back from Liverpool (thankfully four wheels on our wagon –still) on Thursday afty, was tuned into TMS. Just after Leach fell heartbreakingly just short of a night watchman’s century (never done in Test history), talk shifted to the one time Phil Tufnell stood up as a batsman. ODI, over to go, six to win, on strike, five dots. Final ball – miraculously a six. A listener’s doggerel verse was read out (if illustrated, you could see it as a children’s book in the mode of “tortoise and the hare” or “every dog has his day”). Title? The Day Tuffers was IN. Well this was the round that Budgers was IN....

...and, eventually, ‘Tommers. No sign of the leader though, costly dropped pass!

Two great semis on The Beeb on Saturday as Bongser emptied a crate of 1698 down his throat. Only three correctly picked the recently out of form Wire. Vanners closest, just one point out on the margin (58 points), followed by Bongser (56) and Chazzer (4icon_cool.gif.

Over to Beeblecee 2 for an Herculean effort from ‘Fax .



Expected to be a walkover for Saints, this clash was relegated to the nether channel. No such walkover. Two apiece after 34 minutes!! Saints prevailed in the end (ten points to all assembled at that time) but Bongser for one was happy to be way out of the margin zone. Bonus points to only Vanners (playing a blinder – 36), Budge (32) & Zools (24).

Sunday saw another two hard fought semis. Sheffield in the end got the trip to the way over budget architectural orgasm. All again correct. The now present Atomic made up for lost punts with a bang-to-rights margin and a maximum points haul of 60. EVVO Matched the feat and Bongser (54) took the lowest of the rostra.

We’ll not speak about the final semi-final.

This week’s results: Van the Man can allow himself and his missus a chilled jeroboam of Brasso this (for them) evening. 138 points appended by a WWB of 50. Bongser second (120) and weaning himself off the Milk of Magnesia. Chuck third (9icon_cool.gif.

Speaking of attendances, you may recall that, in Round One, a time capsule was interred. One of the questions regarded the aggregate attendance in Leigh's 13 home games in the regular Championship.

With three home games to go, the running total, by Bongser's albeit addled addition is 32,284. Some predictions are already well shy - a measure of the unexpected stability enjoyed by Leigh since the dark days of the close season? Rock on!

Back on July 28, there was a rearranged game that finished

Rochdale 12-32 Dewsbury

No correct scores or margins posted back in February but five points each to Chazzer, Vanners, Chayders, EVVO, Bongser & Wanderer.

Friday evening saw Sheffield hammer Widnes. 7/10 erred the other way and Chayders’ Jokermon fell at the first fence and was destroyed. Points though (five of them) to Budge, Pubbers & Vanners.

Sunday afty and by HT most chances of a correct score had gone for a burton. What’s more Leigh were trailing at home to lowly Swinny. Something approaching normal service was restored in all the games in the second 40, but two (very nearly three until The Trannies scored in the death throes at Odsal) out of six games being edged by a singleton and half the games being won by an odd margin scuppered most hopes of a correct margin.

Clean sweeps on victories for Leigh (squeaky bum style) and for York. Pubbers distinguished himself with a correct margin in the latter game.

Mr Dare to be Different was the only one to miscue on wins for The Trannies & Fev, but he should be given his due, in two very close run affairs, he was closer to the margin than most in both.

[iLes crapauds[/i won at ‘Fax. Foreseen by all but Atomic & Pubbers. This time EVVO nailed the margin.

It would have been a free for all with a Batley win at ‘Dale had not Bongser accidentally switched his prediction round in favour of The Hairnets. 14 minutes after misposting that bolox, he correctly entered the same margin (but in Batley’s favour) on The Bulls’ forum. Still, his mistake and he’s big enough to take his lumps – damn it!!!



All of which means that, on his maiden appearance on Championship WPL, Budgiezilla nailed a Pokemon, an achievement that was matched by last week’s winner Vanners – apparently they do cask Brasso on tap in ‘Couver and it is doing VL’s punts the world of good. With the 5 pts from the rearranged fixture, Vanners led 140-135 from Budge as we looked at the BBQ results. Attendance was 3155. Budge was a mere five souls shy (25 points) with VL next closest (1icon_cool.gif, Atomic third (15).

, but Zillers edges it by a mere [ideux points[/i. You still don’t get a badge Budge, but you do get a WWB of a further 25 points for a debut total of 185 pts. Huzzay!
