Well we do not know which drug it is so we should wait and see in my view.

Should it turn out to be say heroin cocaine or cannabis then we can start the debate again about wether such drugs are sports enhancing.

Might be speed might be any other drug which isn't good for a persons health but if it isn't performance enhancing then what has it got do do with me or the RFL. I have said before I think they should all be legalised and taxed like ciggies and beer.We might be able to withdraw from Afghanistan next week if we did that.

Couldn't have happend to a better player. Never liked the way he played the game. never rated him but also never met him so I can't say anything about his personal attitude but if it's like the one on the field I hope this is his retirement call. The game is better without him.

since SL started the way he plays the game is exciting and gets the oppo fans wound up to hell, real character and has played the game at the highest level for a long time proving that he,s up there with the best..Terry Newton aint the only RL player allegedly taking drugs whether they be recreational or performance related its widespread through society all around the world, when these sportsmen are caught its much better getting them on board
to educate young people instead of throwing them to the lions the only way society will reduce the culture of drug abuse is to educate the young from a early age, through various methods including a real life look at what drug abuse does to normal people living normal lifes !!!!

cant agree fully Ian it seems that its only when they get CAUGHT they join the 'educators' I'm afraid im amongst the 'hang em and flog em' brigades on this subject, kids require role models NOT role reversal modes. Much bbetter to use a reral personality who has never strayed or been caught.

Well Fred as a professional who works with kids with extreme challenging behaviour
if you use somebody who has never strayed or used drugs ect ect
#1 They wont have any experience whatsoever to give feedback
#2 a person who has used drugs ect ect straightaway gets the attention
of young people esp if they are a well known pro sportsman even tho they have
been caught using illegal substances they seem to have the respect of the young
and they stand a much better chance of putting over the dangers of using drugs
than some professional drug worker who thinks they know what they are talking about
but in reality its all come from books ect ect................

cullen on boots n all was right to say its common from his experience................thought at one stage he was going to name someone he once coached who most people know is "at it"..allegedly...

Well, it goes without saying what an idiot hes been. Lets just hope its doesn't turn into the witch hunt we've seen with footballers private lives over the last couple of weeks - if the lads got issues he should be getting a helping hand from folk.

Whatever, this more or less puts a full stop to and underlines the end of Terry Newtons professional career now.

Its a sad way to go because whether he was your cup of tea or not he was a very effective player in his pomp, and I know we're talking W**an here, but you could always see the pride he had in wearing his home town shirt. You would at least have to admire him for that.

I think what the RFL community needs to do now is assess how big this problem is and address it earnestly and realistically - as Paul Cullen intimated on B'NA the cases being brought to light are, it seems, the tip of the iceberg. A sad reflection of the game or a sad reflection of society?? Chicken and egg IMHO.

Performance enhancing or not, if its found to be a true result then he's an idiot. Watching your career go down the crapper for something you knew all along was against the rules - way to prove yourself Terry. There's plenty of kids looked up to him that will have been let down if it's true. Not to mention amateur/young players who've never been as stupid but would have loved the breaks he's had. So forgive me if I don't sympathise with the supposed cheat (or the party addict depending which type of drug it might have been). If it's true and it's worth losing his career over then he doesn't deserve the sympathy IMHO.

And as for using druggies as role models - sorry, but there's far more kids don't get involved - give every kid the information and the facts about what drugs do and re-enforce what the consequences are. If they're stupid enough to persevere after that then why give them the same breaks (or better) compared to the kids who've stayed clean? Police it properly, use the clean players as role models and make examples of the rest.

What ive said its no use using people with no background to try and educate young people against the danger of drug use , people with drug use background can give in a lot of cases positive mentoring to young people this is not putting the person up as a ROLE MODEL#
far from it its trying to put across to the young the lessons learned from the offenders history of offences....

You name a game were he has won it for his team and I bet there 10 were he has cost them it. He was rubbish for his country in every game I saw him. If the best thing he could do was wind up the crowd then that will do for me. The game will be better without him.
