| I have to say that Phil did give him a fair crack at the job. Last nights substitutions sealed his fate me thinks. It was reported that Paul Jewel was at the game. Not a bad manager but dont think he will save us this year. But here's hoping.

| Didn't see many games, but every time they played us they are a pain in the @rse.
Feel sorry for the guy as he was never fully backed by the fans IMO. They are one of half the clubs in PL that are forced to do it the hard way with little funds to spend. He got them out of trouble before, and I think they was in worse position then too.

The same guy that turned down the club he supported as a kid (celtic) in the summer so he could stay at Burnley?
Think Phil Brown is safe at the minute especially with the transfair window coming up. I'm sure if he'd have been gone by now so they could get a new man in with the players he wants.

They/we dont/didnt.
He had every chance and more. He had more money available than any other Bolton manager and had the support of the vast majority until the last few months.
When he was appointed many were not convinced but only a small minority made it known and were more often than not drowned out by the majority.
Supporters groups urged him to open up to the fans and ignore the minority. He was given more than anough opportunity to reach out to those who supported him but he didn't.
He then took a reserve team to Lisbon in the QF of the Uefa Cup because we had Wigan a few days later. We lost both. If you've been a Bolton fan since the bad old days of 4th Division football, European football is a dream. To treat it with contempt was a disgrace especially when we'd already got results against Athletico Madrid and Bayern Munich - we could quite easily have gone further. Rangers were no better than us, the only team far and away better than any of the last 8 were Zenit who romped it.
The PR failing was mainly of his own doing with poor decisions and frequent negativity, his signings are by and large were abysmal, but when things didnt go right he always sought to blame the fans, who by and large had supported him up to the last few months, or the players.
In his frequent whinges at the noisy minority, he lumped us all in the same boat. There was no 'we' or 'us' with him, it was always 'this lot' or 'Bolton'.
That slowly alienated his best allies. He was lumping us with the halfwits but doing little to prove them wrong. Too many times he went too defensive at home against teams we needed to beat. Too many times it resulted in defeats or losing two goal leads. Too many times we were left to say 'we told you so'.
He created that atmosphere, nobody else.

| Couldn't have put it any better AD (though I was only a fan from Division Two rather than Division Four ).
Would love Coyle to come back, and I think he'd actually fancy it, but Gary Speed with Bruce Rioch as Director of Football would do me.
"We're having a party 'cos Megson's gone...."

| It might seem like that to many yes! But the support can also be very partisan and intimidating if someone gets it right.
In fairness, all we want is the basics of the Allardyce era; a bit of class, and a bloody good fight when its needed. We've surrendered more times than the French these last couple of years.

| So the next manager has to be a popular choice then and not necessarily the best man for the job? It sounds like the Bolton fans simply want an ex player in charge because 'we liked him when he played for us'.

I remember Bruce Rioch, and to a lesser extent Colin Todd, being quite a popular chap, and he wasn't an ex-Bolton player. Coyle is being touted because of his managerial achievements, or else we'd all just be hankering for a dream team of McGinlay and Djorkaeff.

Sounded like a previous Leigh manager who claimed the fans were against his barnpot ideas and it was never his fault
Get rid of the warddrobe that is almander infact a wheelie bin would have a higher ratio of scoring mainly down to higher workrate a wheelie bin would produce

Where has anyone said that?
It's not unreasonable to want someone who wont play with 10 defenders and have his boss charge £30 for the privilege.
