Quote ="kirkhall"I'm not suggesting we lost our first three games because of the Referees! I'm making an observation on James Childs as a Referee! Every game he takes involving Leigh he is constantly talking to and warning Leigh players, far more than he does the opposition!
We have acquired a reputation for ill discipline and I think some Referees are riding on the back of that? yes we commit foul play however, has any of our foul play led to an opponent being seriously injured or, hospitalised? rarely i'll bet! Some of our players are a target for opposition teams, none more so than Sam Barlow! Sam came to Leigh with a reputation for foul play yet, it is he who gets targeted and has sometimes finished up in Hospital! Gregg McNally too seems to be targeted and hehas had his fair share of Hospital Linen!
In the Wakey game, Childs could quite easily given us justifiable penalties however, as usual, he chose not to! When Liam Kay chased Ridyards kick down to score a glorious try Chris Riley deliberately tried to impede Liam from collecting the ball! Childs could have awarded Leigh a further two points for the foul but, he didn't! A couple of years ago he awarded Catalan an eight point try against us for their player being fouled during scoring! Again, Wakey game, he could have awarded us a penalty as Gregg McNally was fouled whilst chasing a free play but, he didn't ! Its these inconsistencies which draws my criticism of Childs! had a Leigh Player stuck his arm and felled a Wakey winger, as Lee Smith did to Liam Kay, I've no doubt whatsoever our player would have seen a red card!
Kurt Haggerty was plain stupid kneeing the irritating Lee Smith, Childs could and perhaps should have given him a red card, the first offence was Smith gripping Kurts leg and preventing him from getting up, trying to milk a penalty, an action that was spotted by the officials who were prepared to play on! just another of Childs inconsistencies!
Lets see how he goes on Sunday? I for one would prefer someone else!'"
Bluddy ell, talk about cherry and white spex
(1) So what if Childs is constantly talking to and warning our players more so than the opposition? Do you think sometimes we deserve it more than the opposition?
(2) Watch the game again - Riley was nowhere near Liam Kay when he scored so no chance of an 8 point try.
(3) Don't recall the Greg McNally incident but do you not think Wakey fans could point out just as many such decisions which did not go their way?
(4) "if a Leigh player stuck his arm out and felled a Wakey winger our player would have seen a red card" - that's just paranoia. I seem to recall their player Sio (??) getting a yellow card when Kurt Haggerty got no more than a penalty.
(5) Watch the game again - the touchie was wrong, Smith did not grip Haggerty's leg. He did nothing except be an irritating git, which does not entitle you to knee him in the head (Greg McNally anybody?)
I'm with reffy here - far too much referee blaming for me.
As for this business about the opposition being offside, have Leythers ever looked at our defensive line when the opposition has the ball?
