I presume they want to increase their audience demographic with yawnion fans from the valleys tuning in, so thereby increasing their revenue from advertising sales. Either way, it is categorically a Sky-led initiative.

Even a French club makes no sense - Sky doesn't have a French broadcasting arm and the Catalans games are shown by one of their bitterest rivals! I rather suspect that come the end of this season, overall viewing figures for RL will be down this year.
