| most drop goals in a match
Paul Bishop v Wigan - god that was a painful day for a Wigan fan (i know we've had our fair share of success over the years
Just seemed like he dropped a goal every time you got near enough and fair play as it kept the scoreboard ticking over and you won the game
Interesting half back combinations Ellery / Edwards v Bishop / Gregory that day

…but we always beat Saints when it matters in the big games, and we couldn’t play them in while they were in division 2.
As for Wigan, we have beaten them more times than any other club in RL and until sometime up to the mid 80s, when they were the only full time pro team, had beaten them in the league more times than they had beaten us.

I watched that game too.
Every time that Bishop dropped a goal the Wigan fans standing near us were moaning, which got worse and worse after each drop goal.
Towards the end of the game, a Wire player made a break and one of my friends shouted "Drop at Goal", to wind the Wiganers up.
"Get Back To Your Own Street" was the retort from a Wigan woman nearby, which had every single one of the group I was with, in stitches laughing.

only team to beat us in League in the 86/87 season winning both home and away games
And post your move to the HJ, we had a shocking record for a few years against you. Dont know why, as Wilderspool was far more intimidating i would say as a player / fan than the HJ is. Used to love going to Wilderspool as great atmosphere.

Equally I loved going to Central Park it was like a cathedral, awe inspiring. With the added adrenaline rush of being chased round Wigan before boarding the number 49 to Newton…

We moved to the HJ in 2004, so those first few years were the Betts-Millward-Noble era, which was probably the low point for Wigan since the early 80s.

| Naughton Park in an open end in the rain - something special in my warped mind. Remembered when Widnes had an all star team with JD, Myler brothers, Sorenson, Offiah, Devereux and and and.
And then there was the Dezzie incident. Like WW4!
Don't remember us winning too many matches there.
Also liked Knowsley Road and Central Park.
But Widerspool was always special when it was a sell out - you were so close to the pitch.
