Does anybody know if the Mighty Wire have any friendlies lined up over Christmas or at least before the start of next season ?

Leigh in Jan is all I've heard so far.

The Guardian are reporting , Ben Currie's testimonial against Leigh on Feb. 4th (Saturday) & another friendly against North Wales Crusaders ,Friday 10th February 7-30 ko , mostly for younger squad members to take part.

What’s your guys thoughts on the Portugal training camp?

From an outsider it seems strange that the team who finished second bottom last year are now sunning themselves and messing about in the pool.

Similar to as soon as you’d got knocked out the cup, players were posting pictures from all round Europe when other teams were in the semis/final.

Don’t think it sends the right message IMO

I don't mind the concept in comparison to say tabbing around the Brecon Beacons, as long as we are fully prepared for the season, no excuses it's not a treat those should be earned.

I don't know what we did last year by way of comparison, it obviously didn't work so maybe it's a change of plan, but with such a large turnover this preseason and with a few new to these shores, a bit of away time working hard playing hard and bonding might hopefully do the trick.

Good idea if you want to spend quality hours on a rugby pitch. I don't see much of a problem but "outsiders" are free to think as they like.

I suspect we are in “phoney war” territory and everyone is just anxious for the season to start (for now).

No issue with it, important that the group spends time building those bonds and connections.

I'm sure it's no easy ride, plenty of hard work will be got through with time off spent together rather than apart.

Looks like Gill Dudson will be playing a part in the friendly since the RFL have considered his non playing time in the world cup could count against his ban - given he wasn't included in the squad I'd assumed he would need to miss the first couple of games of the season.

Yeah i think he will miss the game against Leeds But then be available. I think he got a 3 match ban so will only have 1 left to serve against Leeds. Not 100% on that though.

As Alffi said in his post, Dudson has already served his suspension during the World Cup.

He is now available to play in our friendly games and subsequent league fixtures.

i've no problem with the portugal camp, team building, good weather work etc.

I've not seen much in down time stuff on insta etc, a lot of work videos and photos.

contrast that with, leigh leopards, still follow a lot of the ex wire players, a LOOOOT of lying by the pool and evening shots.

Mad monday peed me off a bit last year at the time, it was gonna happen no matter what, whether it was abroad or here, i probably wouldn't have been happy either way at that point.

but we're in a new season now, clean(ish) slate

On the subject of friendlies I suspect we're going to see pretty much all the first choice team play next weekend given there are no other (first team) friendlies lined up. Interesting (and possibly risky?) strategy to go into the season with only an 80 minute warm up in the tank and a new half back combination to bed in. He's not been mentioned much in preseason and the focus has been on our new forwards but I'm interested to see how Mikaele goes with a full preseason behind him. Looking forward to the game next weekend.
