That was reason I put him on the list, Thewlis can be the next Fullback from what I have seen of him in that position. Also think D.Clark is struggling more these days and the season as only just started, think he is going to have a tough time even finishing the season.

The worrying part for you men is looking at these names most other teams would snatch your hand off if these players were for sale..
You seem to be following the same path Wigan did last year. We had great players but they had no effort in them. Soon as we lost to Catalan we fell apart.

From that list could go tomorrow for me after the rubbish last couple of matches. J Clark has put in some good stints this season but in all honesty all he is doing is preventing longstaff getting a chance. His extension was a mistake, I said at the time the money would have been better saved for any big prop who became available through the season. Sadly I think i was right.

This. Clear-outs are easy to talk about but more difficult to achieve, because of contract situations. What we can immediately do, though, is look to the likes of Thewlis, Wrench, Longstaff and Dean, and try to build a side around them. If Welsby and Dodd were at Wire, they would still be playing four games a season, while under-performing veterans got picked ahead of them.

| Unfortunately, we are seeing the results of several seasons of replacing players with inferior quality players ,either by poor scouting/management or the unavailability of quality players.
As a consolation ,not many teams will compete with Saints this year.

| Yeah there are a few players that need to move on and Powell will do that when he can and will build the squad he wants.
Hughes for me has to go, Longstaff for me has shown me more in the games i've seen than Hughes has ever.
Philbin has completely gone off the boil and should be dropped.
J.Clark i'm happy to see go.
Daz Clark is clearly struggling.
Tony king......what's happened??
Lots of effort from some but just no pay off.
Drop Philbin and give Butler a go.
Drop Hughes and let Longstaff show what he can do.
Ratchford i think is hitting the last legs department so get Thewlis somemore game time.
Lots to improve on and i didn't expect to win this game anyway so not gonna get worked up by it. There is plenty of time to get things right so i'm not gonna throw the towel in yet. But we definately need to drop under performers and shake the team up.

I think saying we need to get rid of 1/3 of the top 25 salary capped players is fairly knee jerk?
We need to give players time to bed in to a new system, whilst understanding it was impossible for Powell to get a squad together he was 100% happy with in one off season.
I’m sure Hughes & Clark will leave at the end of the year and I’m sure a prop will be top of the shopping list. Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water and disrupt another off season.
Also Danny Walker had his day in the sun? He’s 22 years old and captained England Knights last year!

| Without a decent pack the backs are on a hiding to nothing. They're exhausted from too much defending - and then there's no go forward for them to exploit.

| Half of the players named would be back tormenting us at other clubs if we released them. Imagine how quickly Wigan would move to sign up King - their centres are Bibby and that big lad who will end up at second row.
Sort the pack out so we can throw the wide passes in the opposition 20, not our own.

| It is useful to remember the first few months of the Tony Smith era. It wasn't all champagne and skittles.
I recall the 60 point defeat at Harlequins when Matt King reacted to the abuse that he was getting from the stands. A few months later we lifted the challenge cup for the first time in 34 years.
From memory there wasn't a wholesale clear out then and there won't be a clear out now.
After that Harlequins game Briers was dropped to the bench. Most of the players that played in that game went on to play a part of one of the most successful periods in my lifetime.
I am happy to give Powell and this group of players the time to sort it out.

| My issue with some of this is that Powell was appointed early 2021. He had three games against us, most of 2021 and an off season to assess our weaknesses.
Plenty of time to realise we are lighter than a vegan sausage roll.

Maybe you're on to something, bring back Toby.
In all seriousness, the outside backs don't have anything to work with at the minute. Our pack simply isn't good enough, 3 years KFP has had to sort that!

Also, the more I think about it, the less happy I am with the signings of Holmes and Mata'utia. Both decent players, of course, but why sign players in those positions when we have got Wrench and Longstaff ready to go? It just feels like our young talent is always being held back, and the Holmes/Mata'utia money could have been better spent on positions that needed strengthening (no prizes for guessing what that would be).

I’d much rather Mata’utia’s brother. What a beast he is.

| I look at Wire from the outside this past decade or so and IMO there has to be a far greater level of trust put in young players. The academy has had some cracking teams in that time but it always feels like the young players are treated as emergency back up and as soon as there’s a more experienced option fit and available, they’ll be back in the side. It doesn’t push the senior players to perform and it doesn’t make the young players feel like there’s a clear pathway through to becoming a first 17 player.
Don’t get me wrong there has been one or two come through but the time feels right to me to be getting Thewliss, Wrench and Longstaff in on a regular basis and I can’t understand why Doro is at Widnes? He looks in top form for them and ready to be pushing for a first team place with you. He can’t offer less than somebody like Clark surely?!
Warrington have all the money they need to spend on players but it’s not easy getting top quality in from here or abroad anymore and it’s no coincidence that Saints are dominating now, Wigan have had their time before and Leeds before that and all of them have relied heavily on the players coming through their academies. Wire might need to take a couple of years of pain but a mentality shift is needed for me.

Spot about the acadamies, our own fans are often bemoaning we don’t give them chance. The talk regarding Thewlis, Wrench and Longstaff as been talked about often, if us mere fans can see it why are the club being stubborn.

| The Wire seem to attract overseas players whose only allegiance is to their monthly pay cheque ,in matters of on the field we seem be happy to sign the big names who usually don't deliver. Saints ,on the other hand ,manage to pick up good overseas players who are happy to perform week in week out & the club has a knack of scouting the best young talent who they are happy to move on once a better player comes along. At this time Saints are the benchmark that other clubs need to aim for & the only long term answer is youth development.

Again right. But it’s like that film Mike Basset England Manager, when he was getting on the coach and he said to a fan ok what you do, then he told him To go away sort of . That’s how I feel the club is towards the fans.

| The clearest and finest example with what is wrong with Wire, and has been for years, was the renewal of Jason Clark's contract.
Nothing against the fella, he's a honest, no thrills workhorse, but when you are keeping him on and denying the likes of Robson and Longstaff the chance to develop their game, then it just confirms that someone in recruitment and development isn't doing their job properly.
Clark's wage could have gone on a half decent prop, while both Robson and Longstaff could surely have brought as much as Clark does to our overall game?
