It was a hovel which should have been abandoned long ago. We went watching the Wire there some years ago on a hot sunny day after a long warm spell. We came away looking like Stevie Wonder or people who just finished a long shift down the coal 'ole. The terraces were built on pit waste so it was no surprise.

Yep, I wish I was back at Wilderspool, and in the bottom half of the league and knocked out in the early rounds of the cup - just so I could be truly miserable - rather the hollow despondency of being 2nd in the league, at a Wembley CC Final again, and with a lovely modern stadium......

Sad IMO. Should have become the equivalent of Twickenham for RL...so we keep RL money in RL...not Wembley's pockets...or Man Utds..or whoever.

I might be wrong, but I think the RFL only own the lease rather than the ground itself, which is owned by the council.

Correct. Which presumably means the RFL will now have to pay ground rent to the council for a stadium that no-one is using and in need of major redevelopment.

Sure, but what if the choice was being back at Wilderspool, in the bottom half of Super League, or leaving to groundshare with Dewsbury in the Championship. You might get more nostalgic about your former stadium in those circumstances.

What's the betting a retail park will be built on the ground or a housing estate...or even the biggest car wash in Europe...
