| Heard today Ben Westwood of Warrington is in talks with Huddersfield for 2017. Still just a rumour until confirmation.
I get shot down a lot on these forums but I believe there could be something in this rumour. Lets keep a close eye on it.
Westwood is originally from West Yorkshire and presumably still has family there. Is he out of contract with Warrington at the end of the season?

| The only thing I can confirm in that is that Westwood is indeed in his last contracted season with us so far.

Thanks, I thought he was.
Will you and your fans be bothered if he goes? You have Westerman now and I believe Westwood is 35 in July.

| Not sure, I think I have noticed him tailing off now, every good thing must come to an end and I'll miss the big fella. Let's wait and see though.

| I can't see us offering him more than a one year deal, if someone wanted to offer him two, then I would never, ever begrudge him leaving under those circumstances if that's what he wanted.
I think he will have a big say in our season if we use him right. I don't think he's a 60-80 minute player anymore, as much as he would want to be. For me his best spot is interchange prop, even more so now that Dodds is out for a good part of the year.
You keep a close eye on it Mario , please do let us know if you hear of any 'developments'.

The more i think about this the more plausible it seems. Huddersfield fans are saying he's just what they need as well.

fair doo's, I personally don't think it's plausible in the slightest. I certainly couldn't see him moving, he seems very settled here, kids in school etc etc.
If I were a betting man I would say he'd see out his career with us in a season by season deal. Huddersfield would seem a strange choice given their current predicament

Good point, but Ive had relatives who've moved for a new job and did so before their child went to high school. I dont know how long he has left of his career but if he was to retire tomorrow would he stay in Warrington or go back to West Yorkshire? Genuine question. Is his wife/partner from Warrington? If not, what will he stay in Cheshire for?
Also, is Huddersfiled current predicament not perfect for him? Near his family and they are desperately looking for back rows and forwards according to Anderson. Their fans say they want someone with a bit of mongrel as well.

| That would be a crying shame. I wouldn't begrudge him if he got a better offer elsewhere, just thought he'd see out his career here. He's given us 14/15 brilliant years and although I have noticed a decline this season in his attack, his defense is still as solid as ever and he's always the guy who makes the extra effort to get someone down when someone else might shirk it. I would hope we can keep him for one more year and then he retire a true Warrington legend.

He has lived here all of his adult life, he already has one child at High School here - so your point is off the mark some what.
None of that though would stop him signing for Fartown though obviously, as in RL terms it's easily commutable, plenty of players make the trek from Yorkshire to Lancs for training, don't see why he couldn't do the reverse.
From your post in the Hudds forum it would seem they are not keen, and I would be very surprised if this came about.

There may be an element of truth in this, I doubt we would offer him anything longer than a one year contract and you couldn't blame him picking him a two year contract elsewhere.
No vacant positions on the coaching staff either and if there was I would be straight on the phone to Mick Monaghan anyway.

the story itself is believable, however i'm not a fan of mario and his topic starting/ stirring agenda nor am i a fan of Pacific and his topic starting/ stirring agenda.
He seems to start a lot of these rumours rather than report on them, which is lazy journalism.
I'm still waiting for the warzone fights between warrington and wigan fans that he predicted at the cup semi in 04 at widnes.

| He is off contract, decisions need to be made based on who else would be available and how well Ben is playing and other clubs are bound to be interested. It will be a very sad day when Westwood pulls on the wire jersey for the last time but we can't deny that day is approaching whether this season or next. I'd rather him see his career out with Wire and I am fairly sure that everyone at the club would but the salary cap means that if a top quality player becomes available to us this year who won't be available next then some of our players whose contracts are up will be leaving to allow the cap space.
Whatever happens I'll be desperate for a ticket to his last home game (and hopefully last game) whenever that is, he has done more than enough to earn a huge send off from the wire faithful and I am sure everyone will want to show their appreciation for him. It would be amazing if it was a grand final win.

1 fan responded to your post and said 'No.' So thats a massive lie, are you a Tory or his agent?
As good as he is and has been and the type of player he is, he perhaps has not quite enough years left in the tank for our needs. Would be surprised if he didn't see out his career with the Wire then onto the backroom staff.

| By last game I was speculating about a playoff game/ final perhaps. In no way do I want westwoods wire career/ career to be over in November and I really don't think it will be. He has to do what is right for him.

| Ben has been a great servant to Warrington but perhaps this is his last year and that is probably right, rather than watch his input and performances tail off. Is he the last since the 2002 season ?

| Its probably the right time to let him pursue a career elsewhere for the final contract. He has been one of the very best players we've had.
