I've gone from resenting his new contract to feeling gutted for the lad. I think his Wire career is over and I'd also bet his Super League career is done too. Such a shame, even innocuous actions are causing serious injury.

I feel terrible for him. He's even getting injuries catching a ball now, it's like something doesn't want him to play in the sport anymore. Think he's done, might get a good go in a lower league, his body clearly isn't up to the stress of the top flight.

As per my post on the VT. Feel for the guy, I think this is it for him for SL. Gareth Ellis is quite possibly one of the players I respect most in SL, and he's just had the same thing happen to him. We've all rolled our eyes, looked to the heavens and chortled quietly as Wheeler lurched from injury to injury, both at Wires and before, but I think we have to remember you probably witnessed the end of a career and livelihood tonight.

Whatever the reasons for his appaling run of injuries, this was a sickening way to end things and a final dose of bad luck that no-one deserves.

Desperately sorry for the guy, and I find it hard to believe that we will see him at any level, let alone Super League, again. It looked like that injury could just as easily have happened in an Under 7s Dads v Lads match!

That injury is sometimes known as a 'weekend warrior' injury as it often happens to people attempting exercise when they are not used to the activity. The bizarre thing with Wheeler is that he never seems to suffer the same injury twice and he doesn't have repetitive, chronic issues.

As a person, I really feel sorry for the lad. I honestly can't see another professional side touching him with the proverbial dirty stick. You look sternly at him, and he's clutching a part of his anatomy. A sad day, when a player's career is practically over their twenties.

As a club, I'd like whoever sanctioned Wheeler's signing for 2015, to have their access to dangerous items denied. Whoever allowed a second contract for this year,...... I'm sorry, they need to be placed in a solitary padded cell, and be fed mashed banana for the rest of his days. Absolute insanity. There are tribes of Massai Warriors, who've never even heard of RL, that laughed their heads off when they were told that Wire had signed Wheeler. Quite literally, an accident waiting to happen.

Not to sound overly fatalistic about the poor lad, but if we (hypothetically speaking) de - registered him can we sign another player this season? Not sure what the rules are regarding this.

I think the problem will be salary cap. Wheeler will not be on much salary, it will all be on appearance money. And we will surely be very close to the salary cap and unable to offer a big salary to entice someone in. Just a guess.

Yes we can theoretically, however much has been made of wheelers small contract and the fact he was on an appearances bonus it would mean that the player we signed would have to be on a similar contract assuming we are at the top of the salary cap.

He is so desperately unlucky with injuries, it's a shame it looks as though he will never be able to make the most of his talents. I hope his career isn't over, best of luck to him with his recovery.

totally agree..dont want to see any player suffer serious injury (even that thug from wigan) but who gave him another year,hope tha lad makes a quick recovery..

If you de-register a player does that not mean he will be outside the clubs health insurance?

And if so that will be a very crappy trick to play on a player whose life must be in tatters now.

I think Friday is the last time you'll see Wheeler in a Wire shirt, unless he wants to stay purely on a pay as you play contract. No idea how he'd get by on that like.

Wheeler is on a very basic contract per year. Roughly 20K I've been told but is heavily subsidised by appearance money.

That is the same for any player but all players (including Academy and Reserves) receive a monthly salary.

No-one is simply on a match fee.
