| I've just watched Travis Burns, and it made me think about Stefan.
I know this has been discussed to death on here, but there is no way that moving Stefan into the halfs is the answer.
We need a new 7 in my opinion. Those of you who think that Stef could make the step up, and has the brains to control a game, are so far off the mark IMHO.
I think smith has correctly identified his future position, if he is to become a great player, it will be from FB. He has all the talent in the world, but after watching Smith and Burns tonight, I just can't see him ever as a half. I don't think he has the head or the presence for the role.
I can't see him ever doing what Burns did tonight, and we don't have any player that could.

| Ratchford is far too erratic of a player to be a number 7. Playing off the cuff is one thing but I don't think Ratch knows his ars from his elbow when he gets hold of that ball, and that's fine with me, just do it from full back.

I think everyone knows each others thoughts on this and it varies from poster to poster - hardly surprising then that he hasn't nailed down a specific role.
I like him at full back, I like the freedom it gives him, he can jump in at dummy half and scoot and he can attack on either side of the field. Play him in the halves and he will predominately work on one side of the field only. He can be our most dangerous attacking, creative player at full back. He doesn't need to be playing 6 to achieve that, he can get his hands on the ball more at full back in my view.
That said, with the signing of Gidley I think we will see Ratch at 6 next year regardless. He needs a dominant half alongside him pulling the strings though I think.
For this year, I don't see any other option than Stef at full back - no one else has the skills in my view. Russell can do a job there, but he's a bit one dimensional.

| Gidley, although fullback is strong in many positions by all accounts. He's supposed to be a good distributer of the ball so he'll be sound at SO. Whichever combo, it's looking good for next year.
We do need so much a general in midfield ala Briers. Even though Walsh didn't play tonight, the unpredictableay he brings in the backs and spots the right pass, makes the backline so much more dangerous with dummy runs.
It's funny cos Briers towards the end of his years wasn't as quick as before, but his decision making with the right pass and precise kick to say Monagahan and King were worth tries so many times. You can have the best of attacking players, but without the general in midfield, to create the unpredictable lines, then a side has to reley on forwards being dominant with structured attack as mentioned.
Really enjoyed the game tonight with the attricion the intensity of defense. It reminds me of Morley and Carvell with Monas and Benny on top form tearing into the opposition. (That 2010 year when we lost to Leeds with that dubious Sinfeild kick in the semis, still makes me so gutted). Not being biased, but has to be the best side not to win the GF. We had the biggest scoring difference per game (worked it out-games/points difference) that season, - (there were a different number of teams and different formats since sl started).
Just got back from pub and had a few, but things always look up with Wire. With SJMoran and T Smith we should always be positive. To sign Daryl Clark and Tom Lineman- 2 of the brightest talents plus Huxley, we should be really positive. Were not playing that well at the mo, but with some fresh blood to give a kick up the to some 'coasting players'- well be alright. COTW

| Huxley! I think it's a spell check error. I've had a fair few, but I can't work out why Huxley was typed. I didn't type Huxley, it's a different player with the same letters alternated.

You must be thinking of Aldous Huxley. Outstanding centre in the brave new world before Super League. Became a recluse and writer (" I'm afraid of losing my obscurity"icon_wink.gif.

| Yep it's Gidley. The H is next to the G, the u is next to the I, and the x is next to the d. What a plonker.

Haha! It was entertaining though. More importantly was it good night out?

| Where ever he plays lets hope he stops holding the ball with one hand or we will see more occurences like the 3 times it was knocked out against Catalan.
