| What about Chris Brockbank? He was coach before the war but then again after the war until Mountford took over. We won the championship and the Challenge Cup as well as the Lancashire League several times under Brockbank. Most of Mountford's success was with the team built up by Brockbank.

Sorry I have no statistics for Chris. His first stint was 1936 and then he appears to be have been the predecessor to Cec in 1950.

| Chris Brockbank was Warrington's longest-serving coach ever (1936-51). His post-war record (League matches only) was
Games: 180
Won: 139
Lost: 40
Drew: 1
Win % 77.2
This makes him our most successful coach from the post-war period - and almost certainly our most successful coach ever. Seems a pity to leave him out altogether

| Apologies - I accidentally omitted the 1945-46 season which was Brockbank's worst.
Including that season the figures are:
Games: 216
Won: 160
Lost 51
Drew 4
Win % 74
Even including these figures he is still our most successful coach.

| If TS can go with us throughout this season with only one loss.
Then he may just go top on % then.
He cannot afford a loss in the next 25 games to do it.
That will sit fine with me.

I agree. I would wager that, if Mountford's coaching career was analysed it would show that the bulk of his success was gained with the team he inherited from Brockbank, a team that was allowed to age and break up without finding adequate replacements, particularly in the pack. Under his stewardship and that of the then board we went from being one of the best clubs in the RL to a bunch of selling platers. To his credit he did sign Jack Edwards, Bobby Greenough and, I think, Parry Gordon who played most of their career behind a second rate pack. If had as much of an eye for a forward as he did for half backs, he may have been more successful.

| The thread specifies post-war - as did I. Chris Brockbank coached for 6 post-war seasons which averages 36 league games per season. He also coached for more than 100 games before the war, but I don't have full statistics for those games.

| Alex Murphy never won the Regal Trophy .....It was Player's No.6 Trophy & John Player Trophy. He also won the Premiership Cup beating Saints 13-12 at Wigan the week after the Challenge Cup.

If you are including the Lancashire League, the complete statistics are here
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_leag ... ty_leagues
Chris Brockbank won 3 times in the post-war period - as did Cec Mountford, essentially with Brockbank's team. Brockbank also won in 1937-38 but that doesn't count for this thread
