| Really?
A proper leading scrum half with a good kicking game to come in for him?

| I heard it was a season loan a little while ago, and that he isn't happy about it.

I heard Bridge would move to stand off and my guess would be that Ratch or GOB would pair with him. Personally, I would like to see GOB but with an improved kicking game.

| Is he that bad? Can you really blame everything on him when Saints have just won the LLS and Grand Final without a halfback anywhere near as good as Myler.

| As Saints won the GF without any recognised HB's that shows how back Myler has been!

You wouldn't have done it against 13 men though. Half back or not. =#FFFFFFHere little fishy

| Myler is not a bad player at all. He's quite good actually..
The trouble is, he's not a £100,000 (or however much it was we paid for him) either.
I reckon God slipped up with His Commandments, all those Millennia ago.
He forgot "....and The Wire Faithful must always have an scapegoat"

| Yes a great player. Good defense, great support player and can find the whitewash.
Can he lead a team though? No. Does he have a kicking game? No. When we're on the back foot and underperforming can you look to him to do something special and inspire a team? No. Does he have the tactical knowledge to call certain plays exposing a teams weakness? No.
So all in all, every quality you need from a leading scrum half he doesn't have. Can he work off someone else's graft and score a try? Yes. I'd happily keep him at the club and use him in another position away from the halves, but would that happen? Not a chance.

When Myler arrived in 2010, he was 'promising' - Five years later, he is still 'promising' (with a lot of 'frustrating' thrown in), and there lies his problem.
He really should be the finished article as a half back by now. Its not like he has been playing with a poor side that has struggled. He's had decent talent all around him to help his game flourish and still he doesn't resemble a top class half back, which is what the side is crying out for.
I'm not entirely sure on what to do with him to be honest - To me, he looks like he is always going to be the secondary figure in any half back partnership, a nice luxury player if you are lucky enough to have a Lee Briers to do all the creative stuff.
So maybe we could allow him to play that secondary role to a developing Gareth O'Brien and just allow Myler to play his own game and not actually expect him to ever become something he isn't?
Personally, I wouldn't shed too many tears if Myler did depart in the next few months, but similarly he is useful enough to make a decent contribution if he remains part of the squad.... My main concern is that his cut of the wage budget isn't an amount that should be being spent on somebody who could offer a lot more for that cash, than Myler currently offers.

| Why does he receive the ball 80% of the time as a 5th tackle option? His kicking game consists of a high bomb. His kick to the corner Vs Wigan was woeful and if it was any other winger other than Joel that try would never have been scored. The last two games we played Wigan, there was one try in it in the last few seconds and each time the kick was utterly useless. Why dink it through when in the last few minutes, on their line, you could float one over to Joel's corner? Even from a bad kick, as long as he can get a hand to it 9 times out of 10 he will score. He just seems to have no game vision. Nor does he seem to be able to read a game and assess what attacking plays are needed. Watch the video of Shaun Johnson mic'ed up on YouTube. He never shuts up! Talking the the hooker, calling plays, telling the forwards where to run. Myler doesn't do that. He throws the ball out and hopes the can latch onto an offload.
I might get slated here but the way he supports and hits gaps he could make a good 9 or even a 13. Prowling round and hitting gaps from 13 could be a good move? Yes he's small to play in the pack but he does have good defense, and he's not scared of the big guys. Just my opinion anyway. That being said I can't see him finding another position at Warrington and I really do not think he's a half back. So for that reason I'd say, 'thanks for the memories and the service Myler, but since we've lost Lee you've not stepped up and you've been found out... Good day.'

| If he moves into the forwards then 9 as a late change against tiring team but never 13!
The pack could be severely compromised carrying Myler for 80 mins.

| The same comments about Myler seem to be heard about virtually every young star halfback - everyone impressed with speed and support play, and talking about how they'll 'learn' the actual halfback skills of passing and kicking. It tells me there's something wrong with the way halfbacks are coached at junior level, which is something I've thought for a long time.

Coaching half-backs to game manage and improving defence splitting passing & kicking is very very difficult. The really clever half backs are born with it. I bet Briers, Murphy, Gregory etc. managed there games (in the playground) from the age of five.

I won't slate you as it's a point I've made many times - I like a lot of his game, it's just that the things he's very good at seem to me more the attributes of a 9 rather than a half-back.

Ask yourself a question...
If Myler has a year on his current contract and KR can have him on a season long loan and possibly get him on a freebie should they still want him in 12 months...why would they want to stomp up a contract fee?
He is on a season long lone.

No. The point Ducky is making is why would Wire only agree to a 1 yr loan deal (if as you say HKR want a permanent one), when he will be a free agent at the end of next year, when Wire will no longer be able to demand a fee ? Wire either get a transfer fee this year or none at all.

OR...its written into the loan deal that if the player went on to sign for the "new club" after the loan period, the fee would still be payable. Agency companies use such clauses all the time.
