If we followed the NRL format for qualification then our 3 teams would be....
SL Champions..?
3rd Castleford
8th Widnes
It doesn't look like the NRL are really taking this too serious.
It seems like the money clubs are using it for warm up purposes to me.

| How've you worked that out?
The two Grand Finalists and then the highest ranked team in the league that doesn't make the GF.
Brisbane and Rabbitohs are involved because they helped set it up along with us and Leeds and are keen to be involved.

I don't follow the 'ins and outs' of Australian RL whatsoever, but, does the fact that there is definitely QLD and NSW representation have any bearing? I'm for the idea and if they could get the format right I would like it to grow into a 'real' tournament

Apart from the GF winners there is no '[iNRL format for Qualification[/i'. As other posters have said, the Aus contingent seems to be coming from among those clubs who are keen to be involved. Given the apathy of most NRL clubs towards anything not 'domestic' this seems a wise policy.

| I know....that's my point.
If you follow the oz way of qualification, for want of a better word, there isn't one.
Should we copy cat them then Cas and Widnes plus the GF winners play in the competition. It may change this weekend depending on where Cas finish!

Except that there no chance of the UK following suit. For a start EVERY super league club would want to be involved. Therefore, on this island, there has to be some sort of formal qualification process.

| Cup winners, gf winners and LLS winners makes a sensible collection. If there's a duplicate in there, then fall back on league positions

| I agree with that TtK.
Have 4 places.
GF winner
LLS winner
CC Winner
Losing GF team.
Fall back to league positions if there's a duplication.

| According to League Weekly it goes off champions and league position, which should pacify those who complain that top three doesn't carry enough weight.

| The mere fact that we are even discussing this probably shows the amount of organisation and enthusiasm that has gone into the planning (bugger all). We desperately need a WCC to get TV revenue and generate interest world-wide. Unfortunately the Aussies appear too parochial to see the value. It looks as though they have discussed it at a meeting and the only two clubs that spoke up for it were 'volunteered' to take part. So I agree that the WCC seems to have taken a backward step. Previously the top two club teams in Oz and UK were pitted against one another, even if the Aussies considered it as something of a pre-season warm up game. Now we have some sort of glorified showcase game(s) where eligibility seems to be based on 'whoever fancies a game' in Oz and 'we can't make up our mind' in the UK.
We need some rich Arab to come along and offer half a million to the winners of the WCC. Perhaps we should let Salford in as one of the UK teams and ask Dr K to stump up the prize money and publicity.

It's a matter of time until we are a permanent feeder sport/ picking up the scraps.

This is what the Australians think about the WCC
"World Club a step in right direction
Yes, the new expanded World Club Challenge means Super League is pausing [ufor two NRL trial matches next year.[/u Brisbane and South Sydney versus the Super League grand final runners-up, the League Leaders Shield holders or Challenge Cup winners [umeans nothing [/ubut it's better than playing at a bush ground and letting people in for free. NRL teams shouldn't play without tickets being sold, TV cameras being on hand and sponsorships being flogged. Governments, foreign leagues and venues will pay for trials. We shouldn't give them away."
If they regard the matches as pre-season trials, why should we take them seriously?

The RLWC had some great adverts on telly and it was constantly on the radio. The cheapest tickets for their WC Final are £150. I'd rather us make less money and sleep well at night knowing that anyone who wanted to be at Old Trafford last November could afford to be there.

It will sell out though, I think its disgusting but people will pay it so they wont stop.
