| I see the BBC have reported the short-listed contenders for their Sports Personality of the Year 2013.
The top wanabees are: Ben Ainslie - Sailor, Ian Bell - Cricketer, Hannah Cockroft - Athlete, Mo Farrah - Athlete, Chris Froome - Cyclist, Leigh Halfpenny - RU Player, AP McCoy - Jockey, Andy Murray - Tennis Player, Christine Ohuruogu - Athlete and Justin Rose - Golfer
Anyone any thoughts as to who will take the crown? Should anyone from RL have been included seeing as we have had another exciting super league season and World Cup Tournament this year?
Sam Burgess? Kevin Sinfield? Danny Brough? Sam Tomkins? ...?

| Tomkins is a no from me, he didnt play enough. I dont like Charnley but he performed all year and maybe should be in there. The winner will be Murray!

| Good luck trying to get RL personalities on there, after what happened in 2006 when St Helens got Team of the Year and Daniel Anderson got Coach of the Year. Bet the BBC were spitting feathers over that.
Oh, and if Steve Prescott doesn't posthumously win the Helen Rollason award, there is absolutely no justice in this world. He should have won it at least once over the last few years, yet kept getting overlooked.
Anyway, the Sports Personality of the Year award has been an utter joke since the likes of Ryan Giggs and Zara Phillips have won. Murray is going to win in solely on the fact he won Wimbledon.
If he lost to Djokovic, then either Froome or Rose probably would have won it.
And on a side note, I can't stand Phil Taylor but where is he in the nominations. He's been on fire this year.

| The Scottish dullard Murray is a shoe-in.
If your a gambling man lay heavy on him as the odds will be very short.

| Think there is a special feature on Wigan (town) for the success both Wigan Athletic and Wigan RLFC brought in 2013.

| What strikes me most about the list is how little personality any of them have. They have the combined charisma of a World of Warcraft club.

I think Murray will win as well, but I'd choose Froome.

| Given that Gazza won it for England getting to the World Cup semi finals in football in 1990 (a great achievement of winning one game against Egypt and drawing all the rest but beating Belgium and Cameroon in extra time/penalties), is it too much to ask for Sam Burgess to be at least nominated.
Wigan should be a shoe in for team of the year IMO.

| British Lions team of the year?
Murray will walk the individual honour by a very long county mile.

| Murray for the individual prize, Oracle USA for the team.
If Tomkins would have had a good WC, and if England had won, he might have got in the short list.

It seems you are not alone Ranger with your Murray prediction.
I think you and the others are spot on a Wimbledon winner has proved to be a once in a lifetime achievement
However, RL was never going to figure if it depended upon the World Cup much too late an event surely although more exposure for Burgess would have done the sport in general no harm at all. Through gritted teeth Wigan probably deserve an honourable mention

You're right about both of them. The Lions beat one of the worst Aussie RU teams in living memory and it was grossly over-hyped, whilst Murray is anything but a personality.

| It used to be good, years ago, when it was Sports Review of the Year, and the result of the winner got tagged along at the end.
Nowadays, each sport is "glossed over" and the majority of the show is about the 10 nominees, but that's how the Beeb want to play it (as a voting/popularity contest).
Calling it "Personality" really takes the slash, when we've had
Torvill and Dean
Nigel Mansell
Steve Davis and Nick Faldo (both of whom had the public persona of a wet toothbrush, but away from the camera, they're OK)
Michael Owen and David Beckham each for scoring A goal (when we didn't go on to win the tournaments)
Princess Anne and her daughter
and Ryan Giggs
You wouldn't want to get stuck in a lift with any of those
and then you've got the "plucky losers"
Gazza (loveable fool who cried)
Rusedski

| Not one mention of AP Mccoy who's record of 4,000+ winners will probably never be beaten.Agree the English hater will win it but at 1/20 we're not going to get rich.
