| With the sadness of the result yesterday it's easy to forget this was still a good season for Warrington. CC Semifinalists and GF Runners up. This with a side which I believe was not as strong as the 2011 one. A season we would have dreamt of in 2008.
It will be fascinating to see how Smith re-builds his 2nd team. I think he will see this as job incomplete until he wins a GF with the Wire.
Congratulations to Wigan, well deserved win.

I agree for any club which considers it's self a "big club" like Wigan, St Helens, Leeds and Warrington a season is only considered great if they win silverware.

For a big club like warrington a CC semi is chicken feed, it's not worth a mention. Making the grand final is, but when you've not been champions for 58 years and you lost at old trafford last year, losing again this year isn't exactly something to crow about. It's winning the counts.
This season for warrington, overall has been dissapointing. They went into the season with one of the stronger squads in the competition and have failed to win anything.

| Wires71 is right it has been a great season and Tony Smith and the Warrington players can be proud of themselves during this off season. Quite a few of the players have had tough spells when their individual form (or fitness) has not been what it was a year or two ago but they fought through it and they were in form in the business end of the season. We lost basically because of two unfortunate injuries in the Grand Final which left the balance of the team disrupted and when it comes to playing another top team with similar ability of players, pieces of luck like that will tip the balance one way or another.
I think this attitude from some fans of "if you don't win the trophy you've achieved nothing" is a bit odd to be honest. I wonder if these fans are super driven super high achievers in their own lives.....probably not. Probably they want to come out and watch Wire and drink beer every weekend and look for them to give them some reflected glory to bask in in their own lives, so they get angry when they don't win and want to impose these super high expectations.

I think most people with a competitive edge would feel dissapointed if they were competing for something they knew they had the ability to achieve, and only had a couple of serious rivals with their ability and they didn't achieve it.

| Going on our form of recent years, it has been a poor season, but, in all honesty, quality wise, it's been a poor superleague.

It's that endemic attitude, prevalent at the Warrington club for so many years that still finds me reluctant to call them a "big club."

Nah we bottled it when we had 1 hand on the trophy.Wigan believed they could get back in that match + when they clawed it back to 16-12 we seemed disjointed + knackered + no belief but hey oh that's just my take on it.

| It's been a poor season on many aspects. Two defeats by widnes a semi final defeat and now Gf lose. Plus low attendances the lack of signings at the start of season. Looking into next season you can't see it getting any better.

| i can show you 12 other teams in the comp that would probably switch places with us right now.
yeah, it sucks ass, but would you want to be a wakefield, or god forbid even a london supporter this morning?

Whilst your statement is true and your sentiment helpful on what can only be described as Black Sunday as far as I am concerned, this can not be described as a great season IMO.
Our expectations are a touch higher than in previous years or more accurately previous periods in our history and with that in mind my view is that I have been disappointed this season.
Interesting times next year

| So, Warrington have only finished higher in the league than they did this year a couple of times since the 1950s. They lost two games which cost them the chance of winning either the Cup or the Championship - these things happen in sport. Obviously, not winning anything is disappointing, but let's get a bit of perspective. It was a good season relative to all bar about seven or eight in the entire post-war history of the club.

| You'd think we were Barcelona the way our fans go on about it. You'd think Wigan fans wrote the book 'What defines a big club?' the way they go on about it.
We competed for trophies, we played some decent rugby, we made steps in replacing the old with the new and came pretty close to winning 'the biggie'. It feels crap, but that's sport and trying to diminish our season because we didn't win either of the two finals is pretty daft. The best teams come back stronger and I'm sure we'll do just that.

| One win away from another CCF appearance, 1 point away from the LLS and 40mins away from being crowned Champions. A few bits of luck, decisions, of whatever, could have seen us win the treble! There is only Wigan who can rival us for that this year, overall, despite falling just short, I see the season as another towards consitant success and where we aim to be as a club.

| For you to qualify how we did this season, you also need to look at what would have been the minimum targets at the beginning of the season.
I think they would be Top three finish in the league, last four in one of the competitions and last two in the other.
We met all of the targets there, so I would say that was a good season, not a great one.
But if you don't want to judge a season on silverware, then what were the performances like?
I'd say there were only a handful of games where we were at the top our game. Most league games this season were fairly dull and lacked intensity. We struggled at times during matches but most of the time still come out on top. This says more for the current standard of the rest of the league than it does for us.
Again on this basis, I'd say a good season, not a great one.

| As we know, success in sport is measured on trophies and unfortunately we brought nothing home in 2013. I don't buy into the idea that because we got to the semi final of CC and to OT to contest the SL final that this season has been so 'great'. Although, yes, in retrospect, it could have been worse.
For me it's a similar feeling to what I had when Leeds dumped us out in 2011. I honestly thought we'd get the job done on Saturday, and that we had learnt from last season. Although it's important to note that i enjoyed 2012 much more in general. As for the match itself, I realise there was adversity with injury but we worked hard to build a lead and always had 13 players on the pitch to defend it. Instead, it was complete capitulation. I also think that Wigan knew our defensive frailties (which have been on show a few times this season) and that these may give them a path back into the match. And so it proved! Hats off to them though, it was a big comeback and one I wasn't overjoyed to witness.
2014 marks to beginning of a small rebuild and should be interesting to see how it all pans out. I'm actually looking forward to it. From a positive perspective, those that leave are creating opportunities for others to thrive and I'll always trust TS's judgement.
Finally, I felt very sorry for the boys who are leaving us with a grand final loss too. They've all been terrific servants and justified an opportunity to bow out in style. Not to be.
