| is a bit amusing, isn't it?
Peacock, what I've seen of him, fair comment
O'Loughlin, someone's having a laugh, surely. He's been injured more often than not
Brough, often outclassed when he meets a better half back than him. If Brough's getting nominated, can we put in a 20 year old bid for Kevin Ellis as MoS. He never got the better of the likes of Derryck Fox or Andy Greg/Shaun Edwards etc, but always took the micky out of the likes of Johnathon Griffiths. I say Ellis was robbed.

| You've hit the nail on the head. Kevin Ellis played in an era where there were all those other great players around which is why he would never be close to it. If the Ellis of the early 1990s was around today he would be being nominated for Man of Steel.
In fact if Greg Mackey was around today he would walk Man of Steel.
To be honest I still think Lee Briers is the best halfback or stand off in the league but he's not done as much as Brough this season - yet.
If its the Grand Final us v Hudds though we all know who the master and who the apprentice is.

| Best of a bad bunch I'd say. Peacock will win by a mile; and who else would make the short list? Brough is the key man for the team that finished top; O'Loughlin likewise for the cup winners/best team for first two thirds of season.
I don't see who our stand out was that would seriously rival them (and please don't say Higham-last week proved he's still the second best AHB at the club when it matters). No-one comes to mind from Hull/Saints/Catalans either.
Probably a good indicator of the type of season it's been.

| Peacock should win it by a country mile. The way he has played all season, in an often very depleted side has been excellent.
Brough can be very good but just doesn't have consistency.
O'Loughlan is a fair player. Trouble is, his consistency only relates to the number of high tackles he produces each game, usually at least two or three. Why he never seems to get penalised is another of life's little mysteries.
But then, I always thought that Rangi Chase was one of the most over-rated players of all time !!

| At the end of the day its the players that choose the list not anyone else. They come up against these players week in week out

| I become more confused by this award each year.
is it 'man of steel' - someone that epitomizes our great sport with selfless displays of courage, strength and an undying will to win?
Or is it 'player of the season'?
Well it cant be player of the season, as Charnley has been head and shoulders Wigans stand out player this year.... to have Ned Flanders ahead of him on this list just makes it look silly.
So it must be the initial description right?
Hang on, Danny Brough has a mardy lip bigger than his forehead when things aren't going well.. all it usually takes is a kick of his to be charged down and he spends the next 20 mins skulking around kicking his heels and staring at the floor.... more like man of tin.
I would give it to peacock, as i think it should be a warrior that gets its....
I think there should be 3 awards.. forward of the year, back of the year and player of the season... lets not dress man of steel up to be something its not.
make man of steel something that gets awarded every 3 years... give it some real status.

That's what i thought but possibly not anymore
Quote ="Wigan28/Leeds18 Andy"Player's have already voted. They've changed the system this year so a panel of 5 consisting of:
2 x current players chosen by the Players' Union
1 x previous MoS winner
1 x "broadcast" journo
1 x written journo
decide on the shortlist and the eventual winner taking into account player views.'"

| The MOS winner is (or was) supposed to personify outstanding individual achievement, often in the face of tough, relentless circumstances or requiring a consistent individual effort above-and-beyond.
Based on those criteria Peacock is the only worthy winner. On Saturday he was again playing in an outgunned pack but kept coming back for more, unlike some of his younger foot soldiers.
As for O'Loughlin, the emperor is starkers folks.
