| After the outstanding achievement of the British and Irish Lions, winning a series down under against the Aussies for the first time in 24 years, you would think that the media would be full of this great achievement like when the cricketers won the Ashes for the first time in two decades a few years back and they had open top bus parades etc.
But no because some dude with a tennis racket happened to win one match we all have to put up with a big love in on the back pages, David Cameron getting on the bandwagon saying how great it is to have a British champion etc.
None of them tennis players would last five minutes in a scrum or line out but no doubt they will all earn more than the best rugby players can ever dream of.

| Great isnt it its been Rammed down our throats all month it was all about some bloke called o driscoll last week it board me rigid.
So well done to Murray....Despite Sals Sarcasm he is a proper talent in a physical sport that requires some real skill, so not only is it a great win, now a real sportsman will win BBc's SPOTY award.............and I havent seen a sniff of the Rah Rah sport at all......
and as a Brucie Bonus the horrible union loving John Inverdale has to issue an apology for his outrageous statement that the womens winner "wasnt a Looker"...great all round for us folk that cant stand Union....
well brought up Sal

British guy wins the most prestigious tennis tournament on the planet after 77 years of trying - of course this should be stuck on the inside pages of all newspapers and stuck at the end of the news programmes.
Never understood the excitement that the Lions concept generates - 5 countries combine to select a team to play 1 country. Overhyped in my book.

| Tennis is one of those stupid sports that no one likes, bar one week a year. Always makes me laugh when people claim to be big tennis fans, yet don't follow any more than the one tournament.
Fair play to Murray, he's clearly achieved a lot this year. Do I care? Not one bit.

I know you never hear rugby league fans call for the return of the Lions tours down under do you.
Although to be fair they would never be able to achieve what their RU counterparts have done and beat the Aussies.
It's definitely whetted the appetite for the 2015 World Cup in England and I'm sure Sam Tomkins will have watched it with interest. I hope with the winning attitude that Andy and Owen Farrell have brought to England, if you add Sam (and who knows possibly Ryan Atkins will be there too) we will all be singing Swing Low and celebrating another great national triumph.

Probably 2 mins, just after a feature on a dog that is raising kittens or a man who had to be freed after getting his head stuck in a saucepan

its an event that lasts two weeks in a year what else should they do? Its better than all those once every four year Olympics fans, or shudder to think one day a year Challenge cup fans......
Crikey if people cant show an interest in one of the nations biggest sporting event then our own working class northern sport for ex-miners welders and glassblowers has no chance

| Murray is a sporting great.
Ive no interest at all in Union
But if people want to enjoy it good luck to them
If the miserable introverted attitude of some on here is representative of us league fans no wonder we get bad press. Enjoy life people .

| Last week, halfway through the Wimbledon fortnight, I was walking along Stockton Lane past the fantastic facility that is Grappenhall Sports and Tennis Club. It was 8.00pm and a lovely Summers evening.
The place was closed and there wasn't a sinlge player on the 8 (I believe) magnificent all weather floodlit courts.
A crying shame.

| The place was closed, but there was this little lad, hitting a rolled up sock against the wall with a frying pan, and I thought to myself "Well at least in 77 years we might have ourselves another Wimbledon champion".

Lovely story. . Didn't The Don practice as a child with a stump and a golf ball against a curved brick wall?

| RE: The Lions. I gave up my bitterness towards Rugby Union a long time ago now. It was when I realised my resentment was born out of jealousy and some kind of perverse inverted snobbery / ego. Nowadays I'm more relaxed and take a live and let live attitude not just to RU but to all elements of my life. It makes me more content than having all that crap festering on my mind. I watched a bit of the Lions but switched it off as RU isn't really for me. I'm neutral to it now, just as I am to golf, kite flying and crown green bowls. Life really is too short to carry resentments.

| Women's football (which - and i'm genuinely not being sexest - is utter crap) gets more coverage on BBC News than Super League does. Wire beat Leeds in a thriller on Friday yet on the sports section on BBC One Breakfast News on Saturday they were talking about The Lions (obviously), Wimbledon (obviously) and then who the injury worries were ahead of the Women's Euros; not a mention of Wire v Leeds.

| Now I see David Cameron is calling for Murray to be knighted.
Knighted because he has won Wimbledon once? I presume Lleyton Hewitt will get a knighthood too then.
Where's the knighthood for Warren Gatland? Three Zurich Premiership titles, two Grand Slams with Wales and a Lions tour win.
Where's the knighthood for Martin Johnson for leading England to the World Cup in 2003?
Where's the knighthood for Andrew Strauss for leading England to Ashes series wins home and away?

| Giving him a knighthood for winning Wimbledon is one thing, David Cameron stating he 'couldn't think of anyone who deserves one more' is a little far fetch considering some of the unsung work people in our country do, saving and changing lives!
