I see rumours have Salford interested in signing Martin Gleeson when his ban ends. When will clubs learn where Gleeson is concerned?

Even though we got reasonable mileage and a good return on him he never lived up to his exceptional talent at any club, including Saints.

No doubt he's older but I suspect no wiser and a club currently pleading poverty are prepared to not only offer him a deal but also to renew his Ronnie & Reggie double act with Sean Long - the self-same relationship that has played a significant part in his downfall.

He regularly performed well for us despite being "one of the lads" in an underachieving era, and he went on to win Super League with Wigan in 2010 - the last time the LLS and GF were both won by the same team.

He might be an idiot but he was a very good player. Whether he's still got it in him remains to be seen though.

I expect at the end of his career him and Briers can sit round with their collection of medals and reflect on how they 'wasted their talent'.

He signed for Preston Grasshoppers some time ago and I'm sure I read somewhere that the ban ends this weekend. None of the bigger RU clubs appear to have looked at him so I'm sure he'll come crawling back to RL with someone like Salford for one last pay day, despite the rubbish he told the Daily Mail in January. It's a shame that he's got such a big self destruct button because he was the best British centre in the game for my money.

I actually hope it goes well for him we don't want another Terry Newton on our hands (which isn't beyond the realms of possibility if he can't get his life together)
