| Lifting the trophy five times kind of answers that question.

| Who cares? The role as captain is overrated.

| The captain is the representative of the coach on the playing field and therefore IS massively important.

| Yes in Wayne Bennett's book he said the captain was underrated by fans/media compared to the coach. He says something like if you have a great coach and a bad captain, the coach is struggling, but if you have a great captain, he will make the coach look good.
Sinfield is obviously a strong contender for this but in terms of sheer influence I would say Farrell. Even though when Farrell was captain Wigan were not the dominant team stuffed with greats that they had been in Farrell's younger days as a player, they were always up there competing for trophies and in Grand Finals and Challenge Cup finals right up till his last season. Then when he left Wigan imploded and immediately went to relegation fodder and getting smashed 75-0 and 70-0 which was bizarre.

| “The Best Captain Of The Super League Era”
Super league started in 1996, since then I would have to say that Graeme Smith is the greatest captain of that era. 100 tests and he has been captain for 93 of them. You can’t compete with that, and they are the best team in the world, so for me he wins it.

| Farrell for me just ahead of Sinfield. Farrell always used to give his team-mates a good telling off behind the sticks after conceding a try - always the sign of a good captain.

If we're talking cricket, then Graeme Smith for me is OK but not great. He basically commands huge respect because he is a great player and can handle the media with dignity but I don't think he's an inspirational captain. For cricket the best captain since 1996 was Stephen Fleming of NZ for me, he had an average NZ side pretty competitive.

Not really, it's just overrated for me. Do you ever see Moz bollocking the lads behind the sticks after we've conceeded a try? I never do. It's always Briers, or M. Monaghan, the same as it's always them two barking out the instructions in play. Furthermore, Moz doesn't play the full 80.
The same as football, Iker Casillas is the captain for Real Madrid. Do you think he'll be the one directing the team etc, from his own goal to Madrid's forwards? I don't, I reckon it will be Alonso or Khedira.

| Plenty missing off that list, Adrian Vowles drove Cas very well in there competitive era, Richard Swain was a phenomenal leader at Hull FC and I think that, although he wasn't captain if I remember correctly, Stacey Jones led the Dragons well in the circumstances. For success and longevity alone Sinfield, Farrell and Robbie Paul are good shouts, but they have always had other world class leaders around them to call upon, much like our situation with Morley and the rest of our leadership group, Briers, Monaghan, Hodgson, Waterhouse and Carvell.
