| Looks like we have a bigger turnover than Wigan and we also pay out nearly 400k more in Salaries.
3.4m compared to 3.8m for us.
Lets see who bites about the salary cap on that!
Heres the wigan financials:

| I would say that if you wanted to do an analysis to get an understanding on how well we are financially.......................You cant! There is not enough information. There is no analysis of turnover, who are the employees (backroom, matchday, coaching, players?), what are the assets (how much of it is "players contracts" and how are they valued?

Mike is correct, these are just top line figures without any background. If you want a look at the figures, go to Companies House on the net, then search under Warrington Sports Holdings, then look for AA (annual accounts) in the list of filings. You will geta very detailed breakdown for 2010. Our 2011 accounts are published in August if you wish to wait a few weeks..
From memory we have borrowings of about 1.8 million, and this figure has been dropping by around 200k / yr. There was a big increase in stock and turnover between last year and this years accounts, so I assume that is the shop stocking up and making money. I don't think the figures separate out player salaries from the rest of the staff, so you will not get that info.
I am not an accountant by the way, I just happen to have read a bit about the subject as believe it or not, I find it interesting.

| Another interesting difference between us and Wigan is total assets, which will largely be due to us owning our stadium:
Warrington £14.3m
Wigan £2.6m
They also owe much more than we do. These two things mean we are much more financially secure even before you consider our generous major shareholder.

Yes, that's an interesting one. People say that owning your own stadium is useless as you can not sell the ground - nowhere to play ! But it is valuable because you could make borrowings against it if you had to. Also you can bring money in from other ventures, so we have a medical facility ? that lease space etc, etc

| The 2011 accounts are available from companies house and show a loss in the year to Nov 2011 of £120k on a turnover up to £6.2m. The debt has increased due to the loan taken out for the stadium extension although value of assets has correspondingly increased.
Whilst the loss isn't ideal worth noting that the accounts include an exceptional charge relating to an HMRC settlement of £268k. I'm sure plenty will remember our neighbours from Wigan, one in particular, telling us that the "image rights" problem would send Warrington bust.

Thanks for that, I didn't realise they were already published, I will have a look when I return home. Hopefully we are generating more cash from merchandising compared to last year.

| What is the situation at Salford anyway? I imagine pretty dire having seen almost no increase in attendances despite moving to a new stadium. Is there enough interest in the city to maintain a professional RL club for much longer?

sam tomkins probably equates to 2.5m of that as well.... the other 0.1m is probably his signed alfie langer wire shirt.

| Sorry I'm a little late to this discussion, but it finally prompted me to register and I had to wait for an admin to accept it.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the number of employees mentioned in the AA reports in those links:
Warrington - 2009
All Wages (not including NI & pensions) = £3,293,756
Number of Employees: 127
Players = 65
Coaches and fitness staff = 23
Administration = 36
Ground and matchday staff = 3
Wigan - 2009
All Wages (not including NI & pensions) = £2,939,805
Number of Employees: 74
Playing and coaching staff = 53
Administration = 21
We have a slightly higher wage bill, but quite a lot more staff - very interesting. Players who don't get first-team appearances don't count on the salary cap, do they.

| i would imagine the difference in staff is down to us owning the stadium and the DW being owned by Whelco. so all ticket and ground staff come under the stadium company.

| True, though the bit I was focusing on was that we have 88 players coaches and fitness staff, compared to Wigan's 53. Will they have other fitness staff owned by the stadium or by Wigan Athletic?

Interesting. So without the exceptional costs, we would have been down to make a £148k profit, despite not make a profit-yielding final.

Based on the highlighted figure I'd say those figures are not to be believed. Matchday staff = 3.....So how does that equate to the turnstile and Warringtons own stewards then?

The 3 will be the people directly employed by Warrington Wolves I would suspect.

Turnstile and stewards are all directly employed by Warrington Wolves. Carpark/exit gates and the security staff are "subcontracted".

As they're only needed on 15 odd days a year, I suspect they're casual workers (engaged directly by the club) rather than employees which is why they won't show up on that list.
