| Surprised* I've not seen a thread on this already so I thought I'd start one.
Really enjoyed watching Paul Wood on SuperLeague Supermen last night. As ever, a few nuggets of info I've not heard elsewhere:-
- We were a shambles around 2002 (OK, suppose that was plain for all to see). More interesting was his comment that "everything was wrong". Pretty startling admission and one that's easy to dismiss when you consider how rosy things are now.
- He has pretty serious OCD which, at one point, kept him housebound for 2 days. It's always interesting to hear a player come out with something like that - they come across as pretty much invincible on the field either literally or metaphorically seeing as they're our heroes for 80 minutes a week.
- He's as daft as the proverbial and very engaging - Carney clearly thinks a lot of him, he pretty much smiled the whole way through it.
He had a Reggie Blinker against Salford - he wasn't alone on that score and he's been up and down this season. In my view it's important that his current shaky form doesn't detract from what a fantastic servant he's been for our club. If his time is almost up (I don't think it is necessarily, I just don't think he's ever been a starting prop, so much more effective off the bench and there's no shame in that) I hope we all remember that.
As a postscript, I checked out his Twitter page. He's spent the last 2 days trying to get people to be positive about International Origin and the game in general. Nice touch.
*not really, this board is struggling at present, sadly. Can't expect an interview with one of our longest serving players to be of THAT much interest to some.

| I will be honest, I haven't particularly watched the series and was so-so about this one. I am very happy that I did, I am not sure whether it is the rapport between Woody and Carney that made it so enganing or, as 77 said, the brutally honest approach that Wood took.
All-in-all, a very enjoyable bit of television.

| Nice lad is Woody and he has been a great player for this club.
Very sorry to hear of some troubles he had in his peronal life, other than the death of his father nothing else was made public at the time but as he said himself he kept it all to himself.
You could quite clearly see the emotion when he spoke about the 2010 Wembley win after missing out through injury in 2009.
If we go onto appear in this years GF I sincerely hope that Woody is in the 17 and that he gets a winners ring. Its guys like Woody who deserve it more than most.
Good on ya Woody Laad.

| Not seen it yet but I can certainly vouch for him being a really good bloke having got to know him a little bit off the field through various things including being trained by him last summer for the English Half-Marathon. He's funny, loves his family, been committed to the Wire for well over 10 years and is a good, honest pro. What's not to like? Oh - he's a Wiganer!

| Remember that the boys read these forum pages, so anything that is said here particularly negative can have an effect, it's surprising but true and im sure anyone who knows a player personally will tell you, they are very vulnerable to criticism, so if you're a fan, always bear that in mind when prevaricating here.

On the otherhand criticism could have a positive effect by getting the player to perform better.

Critism yes, but some of the crap spouted on here about Adrian Morley or Micky Higham and Paul Wood last week was not on in my opinion.

| Great servant, and if not for the poisoned chalice of injury, I think he could have been an England/GB regular. I like his tweets as well.

What? What appears positive about getting injured? I'd say it's just ty and can really stop a career.
Maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah, you're right pal. A poisoned chalice is a really positive thing. If I'm stuck in future I will drop you a PM.

A poisoned chalice, sir, is something which initially seems positive and beneficial, but eventually turns out to be the quite the opposite.
Eg. Chinese pottery was initially seen as a wonderful invention and was centuries ahead of other civilizations' attempts. However, this meant that they were delayed in other, arguably more important, inventions; such as glass.
That is a textbook case as a poisoned chalice. I will ask again; what is the initial perceived positive of getting an injury?
Also, if you are going to be a pompous twot, learn some basic English. For God's sake, it isn't a vague idiom and you really should know better.

I will let you figure it out. I'd say playing rugby league is the positive, injury being the negative. Anyway, I've known Wigan fans to act like tools and derail our threads but I never thought I'd see our own fans do it.
You're Carol Vorderman and I will have a vowel please.
