| QUOTA RULES
2011 =#FF0000(Will be updated as soon as info available)
- a minimum of 8 Club Trained Players or Academy Juniors working towards that classification;
- a maximum of 5 players who satisfy none of the definitions of Club Trained, Federation Trained or are working towards either classification;
- a maximum of 5 Overseas Quota players;
- the remainder being made up of Club Trained, Federation Trained Players or Academy Juniors working towards either classification
Where
"Club Trained" = a player who has been on the Club’s register for any 3 full Seasons before the end of the Season in which he ceases to be eligible by age to play at Under 21 level. For the 2008 Season only this shall be amended to 1 full Season and for the 2009 Season only this shall be amended to 2 full Seasons. For the avoidance of doubt, where a player satisfies the definition in each of the 2008 and 2009 Seasons and is on the Club’s register in both of those seasons, the Player shall retain the status of ‘Club Trained Player’ in 2010 for so long as he remains on the register of that Club but shall lose such status (unless he satisfies the full definition of 3 years) upon being removed from the Club’s register and shall not regain it simply by returning to the Club’s register. Otherwise, and again for the avoidance of doubt, from the 2010 Season onwards a player must satisfy the requirement to have been on the Club’s register for 3 full Seasons before being ineligible to play at Under 21 level in order to qualify as a ‘Club Trained Player’ and the fact that he may have qualified as a ‘Club Trained Player’ in the 2008 and/or 2009 Seasons shall be irrelevant.
"Federation Trained Player" = a player who, for any 3 full Seasons before the end of the Season in which he ceases to be eligible by age to play at Under 21 level has been on one of the Club’s register or the register of another Club being a member of the same rugby league federation. For the avoidance of doubt if a player moves from one Club’s register to another Club’s register and there is a period of no more than 28 days in the Season (as defined) and any amount of the period between the 1 December and the day of the first League Match, Representative Match or Cup Tie (whichever is sooner) between being removed from one register and being registered with another Club, consecutively shall not be broken for the purposes of this clause.
Overseas Quota = i.e. anyone without a passport from within EU, Kolpak or Cotonou countries.
and
"overseas trained" = any other player.

RFL "RELAX" RESTRICTIONS ON EXISTING OVERSEAS PLAYERS:
The RFL has now announced that clubs will be able to renew or extend the contracts of non-federation players who were signed before the rule was changed in June 2007.
Those players can be retained on top of the non-federation players that clubs are allowed, though the new dispensation will expire if players switch clubs or at the end of any contract extension.
***
SUPER LEAGUE CLUBS AGREE EXTENSION:
Tuesday 21st October 08
After consultation with engage Super League clubs at this week’s end of season meeting, the RFL board has approved an extension to a recent exemption to the club trained rules.
At the meeting held in Harrogate, engage Super League clubs unanimously agreed that the club trained rules should remain and that a number of players registered in the competition prior to the adoption of the club trained rules should count as federation trained players.
Clubs also agreed that any legal case brought against the RFL for introducing such rules should be defended vigorously.
Rod Findlay, the RFL’s in-house lawyer said: “The club trained rules were introduced at the start of the year to increase the number of home produced players in the top flight. Clubs are fully behind these rules and reaffirmed their support this week.
“What this extension does is accommodate those players who have made a career in the game before they were aware of the possibility of club trained rules. Long term once the people qualify for the current exemption retire the club trained rules will do what they were designed to do and that is bring through more home grown talent.”
To take advantage of the extension of the exemption a player must apply to the RFL to be ‘federation trained’ at the end of their current contract. They also must have registered with the RFL prior to 1 February 2008, the date when the club trained rules were introduced.
Their status as a federation trained will then apply throughout their career, even if they move clubs in the future.

They have two really good prospects in the back row.
Leithwaite (sp) and Ben Currie.

Laithwaite, Ben Currie are the two obvious names. Saints aren't having either, either.

Not sure if they're the players as I can't recall the names but saints want a u20 backrow of yours as you'll be making way for a new young top quality backrow for next year

| Really ? Laithwate is already out on loan with Leigh and is a regular. Currie has already played a full 80 min for the 1st team even though he is only 18 (and scored a hat trick of tries last week for U20's). So not convinced we would import another second rower. If anything we need a new prop.

Reasonably different, Currie is explosive and pacy. Lathwaite, primarily a ball handling loose who has been playing as an orthodox backrower of late.

Currie by a country-mile (and he's still only 17 not 18 as another person posted) but that is not belittling Laithwaite's ability at all. Currie is going to be something special and the nearest thing to Sculthorpe I've seen at that age since Sculthorpe himself. Times have changed though and we are no longer a selling club. I believe Currie is contracted for another four years but expect that to be upgraded well before it expires.
Laithwaite is a more realistic target for Saints; not certain when his contract expires but it could well be the end of this year. He's 20 now and will be looking to breakthrough into the first team soon. He got a couple of mom's for England u18's the other year when they beat the Aussies. I believe he made a good start of his loan spell for Leigh last week so it'll be interesting to see how he goes there. Definitely good (and big) enough to be a Super League regular somewhere down the track. If I had to put money on it I'd say he'll sign another contract at Warrington, he's a local lad and there no reason any more for our youngsters to look to moving to the likes of Saints to experience top level coaching and facilities and be in with a shout of winning silverware.
Other lads who fit the description are:
Ben Evans - no chance
Danny Bridge - only recently signed from Wigan
Brooke Broughton - prop really and a possibility, would be a strange signing.

| Chris Hill, Warrington has a gem with this man. He is a wrecking-ball, and if you want a swap I’m sure IL & SW would let you have Stuart Fielden, how about it?
