After half a century of living in the UK most of it watching the Wire my company has given me a posting to China.

As of Saturday I will be Shanghai Wire. I am starting the Shanghai Branch of the Warrington Wolves Supporters Club. As far as I can tell I will be the Chairman, President, Treasurer and founder member.

The first challenge will be finding a way of watching the Wigan match, legally of course.

I work for a Chemical company and will be flogging some of the stuff we make in Warrington to our friends out East. I will be home every couple of months.

Watching the games is a challenge, NRL is on in the expat bars but nothing from UK. Of course football is no problem.

I have a few options for watching the games on the net and Sunday will be my first attempt.

forget internet streams in china, their net is so restricted it's untrue, you may even struggle to get on this forum.

Wow - Shanghai is an amazing place. Definitely better to live there than Beijing I would say. You should feel at home anyway as the Bund looks just like the front at Liverpool!

You have never been there have you, there are ways to see anything on the net in China, I have friends who go to church and there is more free thinking than the press here make out.

If I see the game online I will report back.

I have not read Tony Parsons book but I can guess what it's about as I have been to China umpteen times.

As for killing British jobs I have been flogging in Asia for 12 years and China for 8 we are going strong and growing in China hence my move.

You need a wedge to rent in Chiswick mate, you working at the one you see on the M4 as you come in to London? Think that's in Brentford.

Yeah thats the one Yed,company is paying so ive got a budget of around £450 a week to find somewhere,been told by a few people Chiswick is better option than Brentford.

Better as in better area to live in, yes i'd go with that, look at Ealing to, nice area not too far away.

To be honest - anywhere in Chiswick will be alright and for 450 per week you can get a really nice flat - you'll be able to get a 2 bedder with that.

Will you have a car? You should be able to catch the bus to GSK anyway off the High Road.

In terms of areas the nicest areas are Bedford Park and Grove Park. Bedford Park is near to the tube (Chiswick Park and Turnham Green) and Grove Park is near the mainline train station and the river. Grove Park is on the opposite side of the A4 from the Chiswick High Road where all the shops, pubs and restaurants are. However, Grove Park is a bit more leafy and has more of a 'villagey' feel to it, and is close to the river and still has pubs and restaurants but is a little bit more away from the High Road (still only a 15 min walk to there though). Areas near to Gunnersbury tube can be patchy and also in and around Bollo Lane and Acton Lane - sometimes the outskirts of Acton get called Chiswick so watch out for that one. But it's all relative and to be honest there isn't really a dodgy part to Chiswick.

I've had my flat here for over 10 years now and I wouldn't live anywhere else in London to be honest - it's a really nice place to live and doesn't feel like you're in a city but has all the benefits of it.
You can also see why my friends call me the Chiswick Tourist Board!!

Anywhere north of T. Green is Acton for me home of p*ss heads, beggers and druggies, avoid Acton i sometimes work there, it looks ok but it's full of aggravation.

Actually, you won't be the only Wire in China. Have lived in Chengdu for a whole month and a bit now. NRL is available here but not anything from Europe. Sort out a VPN and you can watch iPlayer, apart from that I have had to listen to Radio Manchester/Merseyside.
