Wow and how old is he, he must be only 31 or so? That's a pretty impressive feat of durability and although he is not the player of old he's always been a good pro, he's got a great set of medals to spend the rest of his life polishing and played with some great players.
I've had a soft spot for Wellens throughout his career because I was at college with him before he broke into their first team, although that soft spot has been severely tested by the amount of misery his team have inflicted upon me.
Nonetheless, to play 400 games, particularly for your home town club during one of the most trophy laden periods in the history of the game, is a tremendous achievement. Add international appearances, and take his age into account, and its likely he will have played 500 professional games by the time he retires. Outstanding.
