| His tweets from Friday night
@Swannyg66
"Yes I know Briers didn't play tonight, just love winding up St Helens fans. There's only one Saints in rugby, and that's Northampton"
"Lee Briers=Lionel Messi. Small, quick, great on the ball and hard to tackle."
"Another good win for Warrington tonight. They are the Barcelona of super league."

| In fairness he has been out of the closet as a Wire fan for a long time now, I remember having an old copy of Cricketers Whos Who from years back before anyone knew who he was when he was an average county pro, and in the "other sports followed" bit he had put Warrington rugby league in it.
I remember going back some years, Phil DeFreitas, Steve Titchard and Neil Fairbrother all listed themselves as Wire fans in that book.

| These tweets from Swann are good publicity for us though. He's a good example of a sportsman with reasonable but not quite world class natural talent, who has worked out how to play the game, and become a top international. He's been the best spin bowler England have produced in a couple of decades.

Titch always asks how we're doing (when i see him @ golf...if your reading this Titch, hope your doing well), quite knowledgable, too
Well documented in the late 80's that Fairbrother was a VERY keen Wire fan
Never knew of Daffy's devotion to the Wire, tho

| I don't think it was devotion with DeFreitas, I think he just got taken to Wire games by Fairbrother and Titchard, I think Atherton might have done too. Titchard was a good pro and a decent opening bat, Lancs had too much talent in those days, in the dark years of the 2000s Lancs could have done with guys like Titchard, Nick Speak and Ronnie Irani.
Iestyn Harris used to hang round socially with that Lancashire squad who won all those one day trophies, seem to remember reading that in either Harris' book or Ian Austin's.
Warren Hegg was the other big RL fan (Salford), and Stuart Law (Brisbane).

| Would do wonders for our game, a bit of celebrity endorsement.
Perhaps Moran should give Take That free Warrington tickets.

Very unfair that. You don't get to be one of the very best players in a global game (just today he was declared the best ODI bowler in the world) unless you are very, very talented indeed. Sure, he's no Shane Warne and all spinners suffer by comparison with the standards he set, but it's an unfair comparison, Warney is arguably on a par with Bradman in terms of cricketing genius. Swann is an absolutely top class player and very gifted.

| They are, but there are huge numbers of people playing cricket around the world. It's a massively bigger sport than RL. You don't get to the top of the tree, as Swann has done, unless you have a huge amount of natural talent.

I thought Daffy used to live in Warrington. Didn't he live down near Old Hall or something like that?

| Well, he mentioned a rugby union team in one of those tweets, which would make him persona non grata with a fair few of our followers. He'd probably get booed for acknowledging the existence of RU.
