Who were we wrong to let go? Who turned out to go off and have a more successful career than we thought....?

Sid Domic would be one. With hindsight the one who should have been cut from the quota was Appo, although at the time Appo was man of the moment and in the Dream Team so you can see why we kept him. Domic went on to have at least 3 more very good seasons.

Jon Wilshere I think we let go too early, he didn't get a fair chance with us but turned out to be a decent player in SL. His goalkicking was good, he was versatile and I think he would have been better than the guys we had on the wing (Gaskell and Richie Barnett jnr) in the next few years.

david kidwell, didnt do much for us then tears it up in the NRL and plays for the kiwis

Always thought if nuttley came back from oz again hed come to us. Not to be and he had a good time at cas.

Eager is another that springs to mind.

John Fieldhouse, although a good player at the wire, scored 2 tries playing for saints to knock us out of the cc cup one year.

I fear Martin Gleeson may score a try at the KC in September that stops us finishing top of the league ladder.

yes I don't think Scully and Harris count (or Fozzard) because they weren't really "let go" they were signed by bigger clubs.

I liked Eagar in his year with us (a poor year for the team). I think he was let go because we already had Kohe-Love and Roper and we were signing Hunte who at that time had been mainly a centre. But Hunte played wing and fullback for us, and Roper tailed off, so we would have done with Eagar who was a solid tackler.

I'm struggling to think of any home grown Warrington players (aside from Scully and Harris) who we let go who went on to make it elsewhere. Pretty much all the home grown lads that left us went on to play in the National League with the exception of Sibbit who has stayed a Super League player.

eagar was only on a 12 month contract, as you say we signed hunte as a centre, but i think he started off on the wing for us, roper had effectively moved into the stand off back row spots at that point, and we also got dean hanger to fill in the 3/4s

He's scored 4 in 5 games for Hull and hasn't been on the losing side this season.

I have a lot of confidence that our league won't come down to a Gleeson try.

It may be misplaced optimism but I think we will destroy Hull.

I know Billy Mcginty went to a bigger club but when I heard the news he never struck me as a potential Wigan player but he did ok. I agree with Eager and dare I say it Nutley went on to better things as well.
Greg Mackey when Brian Smith took him to Hull FC ?
Gary Mercer also went on to Leeds who were at the time a bigger club but massive under achievers.

When you think of the teams that have had big spells of success over the last 30 years or so (Bradford, Leeds, Saints, Wigan and Widnes) and discount any players that went to those sides then look at clubs that had brief spells of relative success like Cas and Hull FC then there aren't that many that have gone on to bigger and better things.

cant remember as it was so long ago, but considering the team involved I doubt we let him go, and was more than likely offered tons of Money

Quite a few players that have left still come back to haunt me, they say time is a great healer but i'm not so sure it is when you had to watch the likes of Andy Currier, Tony Tatupu, Adam Doyle, Paul Hulme, John Thursfield, Tony Burke and so on .... I got too emotional to carry on, oh those lasting memories.

I reckon Jerome Guisett will have clocked up a fair few wins againt Warrington since leaving us, I would reckon in the SL era he would be up there for wins against Warrington since being moved on.

Billy McGinty, the jury is out on him. I thought he was good for Warrington but like you say not the kind of guy you would have seen Wigan signing, Mike Gregory yes, McGinty no. Not sure if he was a massive loss to us but he was a useful player and would have still been in our team for a while.

Greg Mackey is a definite (first time round), not sure what the exact story was but wasn't there something to do with us signing him on a short term deal, and not being fast enough to extend it and Hull coming in and sorting a deal with him.

Gary Mercer another definite, he's a player I didn't want to leave and was always a fan. I thought when he came back in his last season he was good even in his mid 30s, he lifted the team when we were in a rough patch.

I suppose we could also say Allan Bateman was a player we let go too early, seeing as he was still a great player 5 years later.

Alan Hunte, for one try alone, mind.

Paul Bishop always played well against us either for Saints or 'Fax. Very good player but of dubious standards. We signed him for the second time after he walked out on us to play in Aus only for him to do the same thing again a year later.

Although he was never ours to let go... Stuart Wright.
Outstanding Winger who Wire should have snapped up but went to the dark side. Warrington lad.

I remember reading a quote from Bateman that was something along the lines of :
when His contract was up for renewal he informed the club what he was looking at in terms of salary. They immediately turned that down and offered him less, so he decided to leave for Cronulla.

The club then contacted him and offered him more than he had originally asked for !!!! but the damage was done.
