I was watching an old video around 1996 ish and loads of kids were sat actually on the dugout! above the players heads! at wilderspool! my question is when did they stop it and did you used to sit on the dugouts

When did health and safety red tape kick in? Was it when Labour got into power? I'd say the year after.

I sat on the dug out to watch us against the touring Aussies in 82 I think

When I was slightly younger, in the late 50's & early 60's, they had wooden benches inside the perimeter walls. Young kids (like me) used to sit on these, not sure when they stopped this though. You had to be quick when players were tackled into touch!

Think the benches were still there up until about 1970. I was another of 'em.

It was an extra sixpence(season 1962/3)but if you waited till about ten mins after kick off the steward would vanish and you could hop over the wall and grab an empty seat

I used to sit on the Dugout in the 90's

i used to have a season ticket sitting just infront of the media rows at that side of the ground. however when i got tickets from my club(woolston rovers) for whatever reason, i would always go and sit on top of the dugouts. never had to pay and never got told off either. was a great place to sit. miss those days!

Sat on dug out, or on surrounding wall, after my dad had lifted me over the turnstile FOC, in the late 70's.

Thats another good thing about Wilderspool, as a kid, upto being about 7 or 8, the guys on the turnstiles just used to let the kids be lifted over if they were small enough. None of that with todays health and safety mumbo jumbo.

I used to sit on the side of the pitch holding a ball.

I once sat on the actual benches with a mate at salford, we were sat on the back bench and decided to put on Mark Roberts tracksuit after he went on as a sub. I wore his trousers and my mate put on his jacket! Those WERE the days.....
