As I said on another thread, bar one half, he's done bugger all when he's played for Wales. So you can have him.

So he is only good if the team is good? Surely a world class player can make a poor team look good?

I'm guessing u didn't see him take the ball from Lockyers hands to score and almost beat the Aussies, bear in mind playing with a very mediocre Wales team at best!?

That was the half a game I was on about. He was awesome then, as he was today, but for every other game he has played for Wales he's been poop. That is the basis of my argument, he is class for Warrington time and time again, yet he has been poor for a player of his calibre at international level. He should be able to control games and not get out performed by an NL1 half back playing for the opposition.

| I did wonder how we would play when he came back into the side and if he would add anything to the team which was already playing and attacking well he didn't disappoint.

your views on kieoron Cunningham and Iestyn Harris' performances for Wales would be interesting too

| Why would a Welshman want to play for England?
Players switching countries is my biggest pet hate in international RL. If you qualify for a country you weren't born in through parentage or whatever and want to play for them fine, but once you've made that choice and been capped that should be the end of it. In professional terms Briers is not English.

Put Billy Slater in a Widnes top do u think he'd be as good as he is? Class players shine with good players around them! (not that I'm making a comparison)

| The difference I think this year with Briers is that he doesn't have to do it all himself to organise & direct the team. Yesterday was a good example where Grix & Myler took on the kicking role at times during the game & also Briers was standing @ 1st receiver with the opposition expecting him to do something, he passed it on to Myler causing the defence to shift & refocus on who is to kick or step through.

| Briers playing in a good team is a fantastic and very influential player. In an average team he's still pretty damn good and can win a game.

tell you what, its not been mentioned from yesterday but GRix really does fit in well at 13 in that triangle, he plays off briers and myler really good and had an excellent game. Great ball running as well.

Agreed. Like a lot of players he has really come on this season under Smith & after a slow start is taking on more responsibility

agreed, i dont think Grix gets the credit he deserves sometimes.
If you look at the sucessful teams of the past, wigan - farrell, leeds - sinfield, saints - sully, they all had strong running loose forwards who could not only pass well but had a very good kicking game too. We have options all across the team when it comes to kicking, (briers, myler, monas, bridge) on the last tackle an IMO grix is one of those optioms too
but briers, what can be said about him what hasnt been said already.. Best brain in rugby league the guy will go down as a legend...

| When Briers caught the ball from kick-off, he'd delibrately kept a foot out of play, hence we got a penalty on halfway for it 'going out on the full'.
IIRC this law was ammended a few years ago and players were now effectively prevented for using this ploy. Was Phil Bentham wrong with his decision, has the rule reverted, or is it just me?

| Briers is an excellent player and I still think Wigan only beat us coz the team lost direction in the 15 minutes aftre he went off. Now the team have learnt "to cope" without him because of his adbsense but also Richie Myler is now becoming a better player due to the confidence he is getting from playing and probably training fully with Briers.
