| The only increase in capacity that I know has ever been mentioned (straight from Andy Gatcliffe) was adding a few rows of seats to the back of the South Stand (yes above the terracing) - god knows how this would work though.
I think it would be great to fill in the corner between the south and west stands but I think this would be expensive as obviously it a new construction (unlike the option I mentioned above) and they probably would have to keep that exit open so would have to build over it and couldn't fill it all in. Think it would improve the atmosphere in the ground alot as the warrington fans in the West Stand are always quiet as they are so seperated.

| The bit about filling in some extra seats above the terracing would look abit like that stand at Leeds opposite the away end IMO.

| The was once talk of increasing the capacity at the Hj from 13k to 18k. Without going up this can only be done by filling in the corners

| nice to see but given what the post says that would be as far down the line as 2014,wonder when any plans will be shown and any actual dates given.also when this was proposed was it based on clubs expected improvement if so well that is already happening.present capacity is already close to being full most games,so for me id like to see some news on this sooner rather than later.

| To be honest I would have thought the idea of going from 13024 to the original 14250 would have been discussed ie the stadium plan was for 14250 but it was only used at the first HJ match and then people said it was 'very tight'.
But if you look at how people have got used to the stadium and comments from those at the first match it was clear that there were reasonable spaces at the top and at the ends of the standing areas.
So assuming they could get the relevant certificates from the fire authorities etc I'd look to start there rather than building anything else.
I think if the above argument was used then they could apply for 13250 say to see how it goes, and then work back up to the 14250 in stages.
It may take a couple of seasons but I see no reason why it couldn't work.
If we are consistently pulling in a max crowd after that then you'd have to look at more building (either a corner or above the South).

No it isn't. Our averages in 2008 and 2009 were both less than 10k and our average this year despite our current success is only just over 11k with only 1 sellout.
The great thing about our current capacity is that it encourages people to buy season tickets and match tickets. If the capacity was increased to 18k for next season, I suspect we'd see a big drop in ticket sales as people would know they'd be guaranteed to get in and would then probably attend less games = LOWER attendances.
Stadium expansion is only really worth pursing when we are getting several sellouts per year, not the odd one.

I disagree. The terraces may be large enough to physically hold a capacity of 14,200, but they are not large enough to effectively allow that many people to get in. Many fans like to stand near the yellow stairways and due to the narrowness of the terraces, it then becomes difficult to fill all the spaces as the stair areas become very congested and no-one can get through. That's why the capacity was reduced, not because it was " 'very tight' ".

| Spot on, Teesidewire. Don't forget, we're still in, what some would call a honeymoon period. Recent cup winners, and a good start to the season. We do need a decent number of lockouts (or close to lockouts) to even think about expansion.
If you look at the current Super League, we have 2 teams with next to nothing with regards to away support, a new side in Wales (we are their nearest neighbours and they brought about 3-400 IIRC), and our closest rivals (to some) are playing in a different division.
Add this to Bradford (and sometimes Leeds) fans not travelling in their numbers of 10 years ago, expansion, at this stage, is not financially viable.

| well cant argue with some of the points made, but sirles's post does say they are going to increase by 4000,if this is still the case id really love to know what the plans are for doing this, but what you said about ticket sales and season ticket's makes a lot of sense.maybe projection of 2014 will let them see in nxt couple of seasons at least the direction we are going and if fan base does increase.

Agreed..... filling the stands would be so easy if fnas filled them from the centre of each section towards the yellow lines. Most people however want to be near the yellow lines so that its easy to get to the bar. Maybe next game we should all try the "disney" approach..."please select a step and continue moving until you reach the very end"

I understand your point and have some sympathy with it.
I actually think that having stairs going to the back of the standing area would allow people to get to other areas of the south stand (eg corners) easier if they were positioned correctly.
This would be a cheaper option than going the whole hog and building 'fill-ins' or a tier above those standing in the south

| I remember listening to Andy Gatcliffe on Manc Radio and he was quite pragmatic about increasing the capacity but based on getting more sellouts. if you do the maths 2 or 3 a year say 6-8k tickets a year doesn't warrant the level of investment required.
I'd still like to see it though...........

The biggest problme with the HJ is the fact that you enter the ground at ground-level. Not only do you have to go up strairs to get to space, its also very difficult to see where the actual pokctes of space are. Unfortunately given the size of the area that was allowed for construction, there's not a lot else they could have done. Reducing the apron between the stand and the pitch effectively moving the whole stand in by 4 feet might have been an option..... but its soooooooooo easy in hindsight.

Thanks, but no thanks.
If it's a choice of sitting or standing, I would stand any day of the week.

| There may be the issue of alternative uses for the stadium too which may drive the desire for extending the capacity. I'm just speculating.

| Whilst I agree that we don't need to increase the capacity at the stadium yet, we do need to stewards to do their job. Each time I go into the south stand with my two children we are told that the kids need to be in the stands with us and not in front. However, once the game has started the stewards allow people to sit on the edge of the first step of the stand. I cannot tell you how many times someone has sat on my feet this season and then these people have the cheek to look at me in digust! I'm the one actually in the stand and as I do have small children with me, I ensure that I get into the ground at least an hour before kick off regardless of who we are playing to be certain of getting to the front. The stewards need to follow through with the requests. Each game they ask people to move into the stands then walk away and leave the people where they are! It is an absolute joke!!!

| A lot of room in all stands is taken up by the yellow stairs and the tunnels. Look at soem of the football stands that hold far more people with narrower stairways.
For some matches-Wigan, saints, Hull, the home capacity is less than 10000. We had almost that the other week with virtually zero away support against Cats.
