If reports are to believed and we take 6 - 7,000 fans to Saints tonight, will this be the biggest away support for a regular league fixture in 2010?

I'm not just talking RL either. With the restrictions on allocations for away teams in football, could it be the biggest following at any sporting fixture (regular season match) in the country this year?

Also when was the last time Wire took a following of this size to a normal league game?

I don't think it will be the biggest even of SL - you'll see similar numbers of KR fans at the KFC for the Dull Derby, and likewise Saints will take plenty to the JJB. Even Leeds at Bradford will take a similar number.

Changing codes, Sarries v Northampton had nearly 45,000 at Wembley in September & with Sarries v Quins coming up also at Wembley I think our 7000 away support will pale slightly.

What's the percentage of away support the FA Cup has to have allocated? would have thought there were about 8 or 9000 Leeds Utd at Salford for their cup game...

yeah there's a point there was 9 000 leeds fans at OT for the fa cup 3rd round fixture.

The two RU games were both sold to the fans with very cheap tickets which have made no difference to Sarries normal home gates which are arond 8500. I would agree with the comments re Leeds at Bradford though.

And the difference with Jr Season Ticket Holders getting in away games for free is?

Incidentally, minimum £20 to watch kick & clap at Wembley - whereas watching Sale is similar in price to watching Wire, so would hardly say tickets were very cheap...

£20 to watch Sarries at Wembley was cheap, there were family tickets on sale for £20. I agree with you re Jnr Season Ticket holders, but think thsat it's a good investment by Clubs. Does it still happen?
In Football, restrictions on away fan numbers are certainly lifted for FA Cup Matches. For example there were 7000 Barrow fans at Middlesbrough last season for an FA Cup Match, compared to the usual maximum allocation of 5000 for League matches.

Yes. We both (us and United) sell our full allocation at every game no problem and Blackburn give us 7000 tickets.

The percentage of away fans in football is 15% I believe, that's how many the home club have to officially allocate anyway. The away club tend to bring the number down themselves depending on their support. The home club can not bring this figure down though.

I'm not 100% sure if there is such a rule in RL, but I'd imagine that if there was, it'd be about the same.

Our highest away following for a regular SL game is somewhere in the region of 5,500. You can choose between Wigan and Saints for that

In the Premier League the rule is 10% of capacity or 3000 tickets, whichever is fewer, hence Portsmouth with a 20,000 capacity give us 2000 tickets but United with a 76,000 capacity only give us 3000 - a considerably lower percentage but within the rules. Some clubs give more if they rely on away fans to fill the ground for them, hence Blackburn giving 7000 tickets to well supported clubs.

In the FA Cup is 15% of capacity so you get much bigger away followings if the demand is there but they can be capped at a certain level by police for security and segregation purposes if neccessary, hence Leeds got slightly less than 15% of capacity at Old Trafford this season but still far more than for a normal league game.
