Think he has had a great game tonight on his first Super League TV game. He has let play go on and he has not been the centre of attention.

He hardly made a mistake all match - and it was good to seethe video ref being used only once.

It"s usually the kiss of death when a ref gets praise for officiating a game,but well done to Mr Childs on a good performance...Just hope when he reads about it he won*t let it go to his head...

Nice to watch a referee with the nuts to give a decision rather then the usual square in the air for anything other than the most obvious scores.

I think sky picked up very well his positioning for every try, he really was Johnny on the spot. Does this mean that we need younger referees that can keep up with the pace of the game as that seems to be the difference between Child and ganson / smith / benson etc?

Agreed. It was actually 72 mins into the game before he went to the VR.

I agree, Child got into great positions for every single try incident and got every single one correct. The only one he referred to the VR was impossible to judge even with video evidence.

Most other refs dont seem to want to make the decisions themselves these days, which often results in stop start games. The VR should be an absolute last resort rather than first port of call.

Another good thing that Child did was giving a penalty against Jake Webster for dissent on the first tackle after Dobsons fantastic 40/20. Very strong decision that and definitely showed the players who was boss.

He did that 2 or 3 times in the Salford v Bulls game.

We had your mate refereeing the Moorfield game last week, the old dude with his black jacket and see-through socks. Still doesn't play advantage because he is always miles off the play.
