| You've got to laugh after 1 game played....
Booing at full time, sad really with all their success looks a like they ain't happy unless they've got the game won by half time...
Thing is they'll probably be there or there abouts at the end of the season....

| Sad in it, but it had to happen sometime, saints looked busted, they are in decline, like others they can't stay at the top forever, just got to keep them pies out though.

| Saints are like us, they often get a rude awakening in the first game of the season. The difference is things usually get better quite quickly for Saints, while we are just as bad at the end of the season

Can I just confirm there has been very little knee jerking on the Saints forum on here. If you look back at the posts made last season about Slick Mick you will find many debates about his suitability for the role, his lack of experience and his total and utter lack of charisma or personality.
The thing that has annoyed Saints fans the most, really got under their skin isn't the losing. We had many, many years of being the bridesmade and winning nothing (If you can remember pre-96). It is the total disregard for the clubs ethos that has wound the fans up.
Entertaining rugby has been a part of the St Helens RLFC makeup for decades, it's something that has transcended coaching reigns, line ups, eras and decades. Even when we were poor compared to the other sides we still threw it around and played positive rugby league. Under Brian Potter [size=85(Not a mistake) [/size we have abandoned attacking rugby in favour of going for a nil nil draw every week. We have no set moves, no adventure, no organisation, no offloads and no off the cuff stuff at all. We ignore the importance of the kicking game and our last tackle options under Potter have been a total shambles. The last 12 months has seen many threads on saints forum about it being boring. I thought for a good while it was the sport that was no longer keeping me interested throughout the 80 minutes, until I started watching Catalans games on the internet and saw some great stuff in the playoffs last year. But it's not, it's just Saints. We've gone from being Brazil to being Wimbledown (But without the fun or the characters).
Some of the change in emphasis occured under Daniel Anderson, he certainly shored up our defense and stopped the recklessness we displayed at times. He also brought about 5 major trophies during his time though, and we top scored or near enough every season. Okay the squad is slightly weaker under Potter, but not that significantly to cause the drop off in performance levels. People say Saints are past it or too old, but there aren't many old players (Less over 30s than Hull for example) and some of the young players at the club are tremendous prospects. We COULD have a backline featuring Lomax, Wheeler, Eastmond and Pryce but he hasn't got the bottle to drop the regulars.
Harry Potter is going to be the first coach to lose a proper game against Warrington for a very long time. He's going to be famous in Warrington, people will regard him as a hero in 30 years time. Smith will be a god. But as Ski put on our site, it really doesn't need to be like that. We COULD have a very strong side playing the Saints way and it would be successful (Might not beat Leeds to win the GF, but it would be too good for most sides).

He fits in really well then with the majority of saints fans........ poster included.
Pryce has done nothing for 3 years and can't lead a team, he doesn't have the skills to play in the halfs and Noble had the right idea of playing him as a winger. Saints most creative player is playing in the back row but has a dummy spit almost as big as the ginger whinger and is constantly ball stealing. They showed moments of great rugby when they split Hull up the middle first 40 seconds for example. However, I think the 3 GF loses have taken more out of the team than anything else.

Yeah go on. What coaching experience did Harry Potter have before he got the job with the most successful club in Super League's history?
The fact that he was a former player is irrelevant.

There's a huge difference though we have seen some dross over the years..
Saints on the other hand have been the most successful team in the Super League era...And what happens when they hit a sticky patch and the players need the fans to get behind them...?
They boo the team after a loss in the very 1st game and many of them are calling for the coaches head...

| I don't think the Saints fans were booing because of the defeat. It was because of the boring unimaginative rugby that the team have played since the middle of last season.
On Saturday my wife asked me if I was going to the match and I said only if you want to watch something else on the telly.

Three years at Catalans, four years reserve grade at St George and three years assistant at Bradford. Incomparable to Potter and Fawlty.

Both of whom were massive personalities who were capable of holding a dressing under their command and inspiring the best possible level of performance when it mattered.
Both would have done better than Potter has done. Have you watched Saints since much he has been there?

| The sad thing about Saints fans is that they have always been quick to boo anything, so it's hardly a surprise when they turn it on their own team. Hull look a good outfit so I don't think it's a disgrace losing to them. As for boring rugby, it's clear you miss Long: Eastmond is a major talent but has not got the experience yet to steer a team around the field, and as others have said, Pryce has always been a finisher, not a creator. With your other creative force in his twilight year ( Cunningham ) you struggled for ideas on Saturday night.
I still think Saints will be in the top four-five come the end of season, as overall experience and quality of the majority of the Saints players will get them through.

Besides, it's untrue. I can't remember when I last heard the Saints boo. 1980s maybe?
Quote As for boring rugby, it's clear you miss Long: '"
The problem with the team performance began mid season last year and Longy made absolutely no difference to it. That is why we booed on Saturday: their performance then felt like a continuation of the dross they served up last season.
Quote you struggled for ideas on Saturday night.'"
Just as we did from halfway through last season.

I'm sure if we would have had your recent success then we wouldn't have booed anyone. We've been watching wire underachieve for years yet still supported them, all us wire folk ask for is that they try their best.

Ha ha ha ha ha. Booed off vs Salford last year when we were down at half time.
Never mind Cullen Day.
Still supported them? Yeah right.

| I've been banging on about Potter going for at least a year (I game him one game).
But when Sean Long comes out in the press mid season and says he's got absolutely no clue if he's coming or going tactically you have to worry. The boredom factor is annoying but when you look at the level of performance Saints have put in under Potter it's clearly not good enough.
