In 2004 Rauhihi was named the best prop in the NRL. The following year he played a big part in the Cowboys reaching the Grand Final. For whatever reason he hasn't hit those heights at Warrington, maybe players not adapting to his style ie poor support play, lack of commitment, fitness problems or a combination of these.

Anyway PC's signing record was pretty poor, ie signing two hookers to play at scrum half and I agree Rau hasn't lived up to our expectations, but I don't think we can blame Paul Cullen for this one.

Completly agree. I for one was excited when we signed Rau.

Signing a player has to be more than 'who is the best', then signing him.Theres a whole host of things to take into account.

Age, the players hunger, how he will fit into a system, history of injurys etc.

It seemed to me Cullen was a touch starstruck with some of his signings, and didnt always do his due diligence.

The 'galactico' approach doesnt always work. As hopefully Manchester City will find out

To be honest I think in the first couple of years we only saw the top class Rau a few times (v Leeds - he was unbelievable and ripped them apart single handedly) and for me that was hugely disappointing, but the last couple of years he's been more than useful.
OK - so he's getting over an injury now, and the reserves game was his first back so I think Rau will play for us again in the first team. He'll be more than useful for the rest of this year.
The jury's still out on next year - as you say injury issues may well preclude another offer. Age only comes into it if you're not playing well and you can sign somebody who's better or has the potential to be better.

Pulls a good pint of Fosters however.
