Surely the RU game has found its ultimate level at last.

Its always been a kicking competition, its now just been recognised.

Don't see the point. 22m away with no opposition?



Why bother with a football match? OK, penalties are a test of skill when your one-on-one with the keeper, but most people and pundits say its down to luck anyway.

Was pure sporting theatre; a test of skill and nerve in front of a big crowd for a place in a European Cup Final.
At that level of Rugby Union, defensive structures are so well planned and executed that a Penalty shoot out was called for as neither side had enough energy - or halfbacks on the pitch (through injury) - to create a way through. Perhaps some of our SL coaches could look into working with some RU defensive coaches?

Irony as many Union teams use former RL Players/coaches as their defensive coaches.

I found it hard to believe that people could miss a goal from bang in front.

It's an immensely difficult skill for players who have never kicked a goal in their life.

I think Shaun Edwards, in particular, is a massive loss to Rugby League.

No, I wasn't telling you, because you're an intellectual whizzkid who is probably on course for ruling the western world from your bedroom; I wouldn't be on a level to tell you anything.

And do you know this for a fact? This is the first time that a penalty shootout has ever been done in a RU match, so it's very very unlikely that before each game or in training sessions, all 22 players practice kicking goals just incase this happens.



So what you are saying is that, despite never kicking a rugby ball, a 22stone hooker should be able to kick a goal from 22m out? I don't think it's that easy.

Pressure? maybe, but 22m to kick a goal, you should be able to back heel it over from there

It would be much more fun and difficult if the players had to put there forehead on the corner flag and run round it 30 times then attempt the kick.

i thought it was great, never seen something like that in Rugby before and it will be a long time till it happens again

i surpose its a bit like having a penalty shot-out in football without the goalkeeper, except you have to kick it over the bar rather than under it.
For me it showed the sport up for what it is, a boring talentless competition, played by fat toffee nosed men and run by men out of the dark ages.
