i remember pretty well when billy slater came through at melbourne loads of people in australia were bagging him saying he wasn't safe enough, saying he wasn't strong enough, that he made too many mistakes and (weirdly enough) that he should be stuck out on wing instead of fullback but look at him now

there is an obvious mismatch in riley coming through here to slater coming through at melbourne and QLD but i think he is more and more showing good potential, i hope he can keep hold of fullback jersey because i reckon he could go far

Please don`t do things like this again, mentioning Chris Riley in the same breath as Billy Slater. Because of you i`m gonna have to get up and nip to the kitchen now to get a cloth to wipe off this coffee ive just spilled all over my keyboard



Chris Riley is someone i have a lot of time for mainly because of his attitude and his ability to bounce back from making errors but c`mon lets keep things realistic, cuckoo land is where the Wigan fans live so lets not join them.

i imagine someone in australia would have said the same as that if someone had suggested slater, before he hit the big time with his origin try, would go on to be as good a fullback as lockyer had been

Fair play to Riley, he has looked good the last couple of weeks but i can't see him keeping Mathers out of the team once he is fully fit. I would go with experience.... another problem lies if Mathers does get into the team, where will Riley play? im not sure i would have him on the wings at this moment in time....

Mathers will have to earn his place in the reserves and on current form Riley more than deserves to stay where he is.

I agree dont think it would be fair ,as riley is playing very well at the moment

Stick with Riley, Mathers has to earn his place with performances in training and reserves
