At 12.30 there will be an auction of some 100 lots. They include programmes for the following Warrington games
1933 v Keighley
1937 v Hunslet
1946 v Halifax
1949 at Belle Vue Rangers
1950 v Liverpool Stanley
1954 Challenge Cup replay at Odsal v Halifax
Also on display but not in the auction will be the Rugby League Challenge Cup. For the price of a donation to the Steve Prescott Foundation you can have your photograph taken alongside it but please bring your own camera.

| Are there any posters on here who attended this game? If so, can you give a brief summary of what it was like?

My dad went ,he was one of the ones who climbed over the fence,he said the crowd was far bigger than the official figures showed and it had an amazing atmosphere I used to have a copy of the programme but have not seen it for years it must be in a box somewhere.Sadly my dad passed away in 07 and some of his stories from the past wire were quite good,He once worked with Dave Chisnall fitting the seats in front of Stanleylands at Wilderspool many moons ago he said Chisnall had hands like shovels but was a great guy to get on with ,not that he would have argued with him if he said it was black and it was white it was black

Think it is a joke. The clue was that the M62 was not opened until 1970.

Still before my time mate, i didn't have a clue when the m62 was opened.
As far as im concerned it could have been built by the romans.

My Grandad (who died before I was born) went, but older cousins of mine recall the story of how he got a real roasting off his wife coz he went with a new overcoat she had bought for him and it was so crowded that his jacket just came off his back in the crush.

| The Rugby League historian Robert Gate wrote a book called "There were a lot more there than that" about that replay at Odsal. One of the sellers might well have a copy to sell on Saturday, which is one more good reason why it will be worth turning up.

| Glee,
I'm not up with this programme collecting lark but I do have one from a game between Warrington and Wigan at Shelbourne Park, Dublin dating from May 1934 (Its actually in quite good nick) for the Irish Hospitals Trophy.
I do not remember seeing anything whatsoever about this game anywhere. Would this be a bit of a colector's item? Does anybody know anything about this game?
How rare/sought after are programmes from this era. I've got a few from the 1930's and the following couple of decades including Warrington v Leeds at Wembley plus other Challenge Cup and Championship finals. Can't say they are all in great condition but to be honest they aren't going to be sold either as I suspect their actual monetary value will be nothing compared to the historical and emotional worth.

Paul - The Warrington-Wigan match in Dublin is one of a very small number of historic Warrington matches for which a newsreel exists. You can download it from the British Pathe site at
www.britishpathe.com/product_dis ... t=1&rpp=20
Wigan won unfortunately. I wasn't there but I was at Odsal in 1954

That one is the 1950 cup final. Warrington 19 Widnes 0. I was at that one too. The newsreel clip has one of the very few shots (maybe the only surviving one) of Brian Bevan in action.

| is the old history of the wire video available on dvd anywhere, the best bit is where the players are waiting for the train to go and play an away game and just seem to be dicking about on the platform whilst having a fag!

Right. I was confused by the clip that seem to show the players entering the pitch by walking down through the crowd as per Odsal. Do you know whom is it scoring the try at the very end? Ducks through the tackle very impressively.
The 1950 Cup Final is one of the programmes I've got. You seem to go a lot of the same matches as my grand-dad did - I wonder if you were both members of the "Wire Razor Gang"?

| I was slightly too young to go in 1954, I would have been 1. But my mother told me how when Wire scored, she threw her hat in the air, and never saw it again.

Indeed your right with Gerry Helme who also won the Lance Todd, Jim Challinor scored the other try with Harry Bath kicking one goal.
Halifax had three try's disallowed.
