His greatest service to RL was to show that an international prop (he played there!) at RL could then become an international centre at the other code. Classic

Shows the lack of technical specialisation in rugby league compared to rugby union. Ruben Wiki played centre and prop in league, so has Ben Westwood. But a union centre would never survive the front row in top flight union, Farrell wouldn't have either.

....however I do agree with you that it shows union as a very compartmentalised game with little opportunity for players to move into different positions as their game/physique develops. Thanks for pointing out another RL advantage!

Not sure it's an advantage, it's just a difference.
I'm not sure the tendency for RL centres and second-rowers to be seen as almost interchangeable is necessarily a good thing.

I think you're probably right - not an advantage but a difference - certainly not a disadvantage as it was apparently portrayed in Sally's original post. It just gets a bit dull and wearing - the constant apologista posts, be it related to union, wigan or whatever

Through work I spent a while with his brother, Andy was a nice bloke and would always autograph things or provide goods for charity. Can't blame him for having ago at the sport that shall not speak his name.

As much as I can't stand the guy, as far as I'm concerned he was one of the best players I have ever seen. His sheer will and presence was immense. He carried Wigan for a year playing prop and probably the best leader I have seen. I'd have gladly had him at Warrington, much as it pains me to say it
