| Just to be clear I wasn’t a Peter M fan before we signed him, not just based on last season. Then again I thought Holmes would be a good signing.

Did he leave that at Castleford?

| Disappointed in Ratchford being allocated the Captaincy.
Once Hughes was injured, Ratchford was our on field Captain for a significant part of last season and I saw little leadership in those games with a meek acceptance of defeat in games that we could have won with more effort from the team, usually in defence.

This, and back end of the season, he visibly started losing his head when we were getting beat, and he was putting passes into the stands.
I hope its a club captain and a team captain situation

| I am happy too. Should be a good Club Captain. I believe Williams will be the key decision maker whoever is the designated captain. Stef is a very skilful lad (who sometimes overdoes it) but I am looking forward to seeing how he links with Dufty. How we use Dufty could be the key to our season.

Now, I’m being positive this year. Resolution still stands. But this is a fair point. The lack of leaders and overall leadership was bemoaned last year, yet three of the four in that group were part of last years squad, and regular starters too.

| Got to say too that I'm disappointed with the appointment of Ratchford too and agree with Boss Hogg here. Captaincy and leadership-wise, I've seen nothing from him, especially during the times we've needed on-field leadership. I would have gone with Mcguire or Williams or someone not associated with the last 7 years malaise.

In the spirit of positivity, let's hope that what happened in 2022 doesn't negatively affect what will happen in 2023, and that we can all enjoy a much happier year. Hopefully the need for stronger on-field leadership has been hammered home, and the players will show considerably more resilience when under pressure.

| I think one of them main attributes of a team captain is that he is respected by his team mates, you can’t have a divisive character as captain. Ratchford is probably also seen by Powell as a bridge between the old and the new. I have no issue with him being captain.

| Mcguire will be the leader out on the field regardless of whether he has the title of captain or not. Its just the way he is and I'm made up we've signed him.

| Other players have been mentioned regarding what they bring to the party but Paul Vaughan unless I have missed has not been mentioned at all, with all his NRL and international experience one would hope he will be a leader by example. Perhaps they are keeping him under the radar.

i think generally everything has been low key this season, there's been no arriving at the airport pics or anything.
I dont know if its changed recently at fans forums,(theres been a couple recently) but the one before xmas gave the air of, dialing stuff back a bit, trying to get fans back on side(thats a big thing off field community stuff and on field, keeps getting mentioned by moose) and also not saying whatsoever that we're aiming for a trophy.
i'm in two minds this year, i'm trying to clean slate it, but it could go a couple of ways, it could be that we've addressed a few issues with the pack, and we've got a speedster in dufty which could be enough on its own to win a fair few games, it could work.
OR
it could take ages for all the new players to click during games.
I'm happy for most ppl to not be automatically including us in top 5/trophy conversations so we can go about our business quietly

| Last year, the appointment of Jack Hughes was a mistake, and I believe Ratchford follows in the same respect.
McGuire or Vaughn should be captain for me.

| Agree totally with fmc.
I'm happy with the clean slate version and just see what happens game by game. I'm expecting us to be better than last season but I don't expect us to be competing with the top clubs at all.

Just thinking I can't remember anyone who has ever been appointed Club Captain without playing a game for Wire. Actually I can ... Alex Murphy but he was Coach as well & there are not many like him. It's rare in any club.

I just don't think Ratchford merits a shirt in the starting 13, he's just too slow. Also, I've never seen him as captain material, and that said, nobody stepped up and looked the part in a captaincy roll, last season, either. Therefore, it has to be one of the new signings, or maybe Dufty.

Matt Rodwell maybe? That turned out alright.

| Vaughan not even in the leadership group would suggest he isn’t interested in the role and wants to concentrate on his own game.

If that approach is deliberate it is the right choice. In Price's last couple of years wbroe kept spouting off to the press how we aimed to be best of the best and nothing less was good enough, making disparaging comments towards rivals like Wigan and Hull who would then beat us.
Speak less and let the rugby do the talking.
I also broadly agree with your take. I don't look at our squad and think trophy contenders, but the new pack additions pack promising. I like what I saw of Dufty last year, he could be one of those Aussies whose game really works in Super League.
I don't mind if it takes a while for new players to gel. If this year is like Arsenal last season - bad start and coach under pressure then showing signs as the year progresses that the programme is working - that's fine for me. I just don't want a year of us bouncing along in lower table with no harmony between the squad and coach.

Agree with this, I haven't seen anything that's shown Ratch as Captain material, especially considering what I was told before Xmas about how impressed the club have been with Vaughan's attitude and commitment towards the playing squad. I would have said he would have been the favourite to be named Captain, but hasn't even been named in the leadership group.
Would love to be proved wrong about Ratch though, and see us have a great season.
