all this sentiment about the older generation being more respectful is a crock, sorry rogues, but graffitti has been arround for genrations if not thousands of years, people born in the 40's were avin it large on the beaches of brighton and bournemouth with their scooters and motorcycles. looking at the past as though it was a great time is somewhat tinted, neigh tainted by nostalgia. people haven't changed that much. human nature certainly hasn't.
as stated bobby moore was a national hero, find a RL equivelant and you'll be onto a winner, stick some one like offiah or edwards and in my opinion you'll be asking for trouble, their acievements are too recent and will act like a red rag to a bull regardless of a token primrose and blue scarf round it's neck when wire visit wembley.
(cue all the "wire won't get there again" nonsense)

The statue should be generic in nature and not of anyone specific. Or maybe symbolic, like maybe something combining a ball, the posts and the number 13.

what about a bronze statue of the cup itself, I personaly think it's one of the best looking cups in sport.

Or a huge statue of a double 'V' and a rugby ball at the top of the double 'V' with "XIII" engraved on the ball.

None of which were at Wembley, though, which rules him out IMO.

It has to be a POTB. A clear difference bwteen rugby league and union is the lack of a pile on ruck in league. The cleaner and more open to tactics of the play of the ball has to be the way to go.

I had no idea Gareth Thomas had posed for CCF programmes.

We have won the RL World Cup 3 times (albeit not at Wembley), the captains were Valentine (54) Ashton (60) and Sullivan (72). Valentine was Scottish, Ashton English, Sullivan Welsh. They were excellent players, but not all time greats. All were true gents who have all sadly passed away.

Any of the 3 would be a great choice.

Has anyone mentioned the beauty that is Mr Rugby League himself "Phil Clarke" he's a cert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one knows more about the game than him.

yes Rogues I think one of Jim Sullivan the first wembley winning Capt will bypass all club partisanship.It could also give both teams and a little hirtory abot RL at Wembley.
Of course Wiganers could claim boasting rights ,but that would give us something else to smile about.the jim Sullivan statue is the one for me

What I wouldn't like to happen is for it to go to public vote otherwise there'll be a statue of Peter Andre holding the Challenge Cup.

It should be a Rugby League legend who performed at Wembley on many an occasion.

I would lean towards his judgement and without bias and have Shaun Edwards.

It's his Union connections that slightly taint it for me but in all honesty I don't think we are ready for a statue of any RL player, I wouldn't have an arty farty rugby ball with 13 on or crapola like that, it has to be a legend of the game hlding the trophy.

The obvious one for me is Murphy.

Definitely should be a Wigan player, we own the trophy.
