| What with the shambles of the golden point period & "when is a ball steal not a ball steal" ,the RFL seem to be excelling themselves in finding ways to shoot the game in the foot.
Rugby League is a simple game ,keep it simple then everybody is happy. No need for elaborate rule changes .
I find it hard to understand that ,if Hull are this year's team to beat , how they made such hard work against our underperforming gang.

Is that how far we’ve fallen?
From playing some of the best rugby I’ve ever seen, battering teams every week, getting to finals every other year, forgive me if I’m not doing cartwheels to get a last minute try to get a draw (when the season being decided on win percentage doesn’t really benefit any team anyway) against a Hull side that evidently really aren’t all that.

Strange isn't it that an impartial modern day legend still coaching in the game has the opinion about Warrington. He should consult the experts on here for a dose of impartial reality.'"
I wasn’t taking the pee just stating that I thought Keith Senior summarised the game well for both teams, a lot better than Phil Clarke and co on Sky.
He obviously without saying it out loud implied that Warrington should of took that Hull team apart if they had any attacking nous. He said that against lesser teams we can score fantastic tries from our own half. When we are having to tough it out we are clueless in the opposition 20 metre area and easy to defend against.
Who am I to argue with probably in the top 3 best centres in the Super league era.
I know is trophy cabinet at home certainly backs that up.

| Quote ="easyWire"Ignoring the fact it was us though, I have to agree the game as a whole is dying off in terms of entertainment. Yes, it's true we don't have the talent pool we used to, or the top overseas stars, but there's just very little champagne stuff. No wonder we can't attract new fans to the game. And to think last season we were expecting the COVID changes to speed the game up and make it more exciting.
Watching classic games on YouTube (not just Warrington) there seemed to be anticipation that something was going to happen every time a team was in the opposition 40. Maybe it's just me but that spark seems to have gone. Everything just seems flat and nullified.
'"
Back in the mid 2000s when Super League was probably at its peak, there was a common view on these forums that the problem with the game was too many overseas players and if clubs weren't spending all their money chasing big stars like Jamie Lyon, Trent Barrett and co they would put that money into youth development and a load of young British stars would come in. I remember Huddersfield signing Michael De Vere, was seen as an example of everything that was wrong with the game.
Well as the NRL salary cap outgrew ours, and the exchange rate stopped being in our favour, the top Aussies stopped coming over, but the predicted upsurge in home grown talent didn't emerge. I don't think there's any higher quality in young talent in Super League these days than there was back when the game was full of big name Aussies and guys like Fielden, Pryce, Briers, Sinfield, O'Loughlin, McGuire, Ellis were coming through.
It's probably whats going to happen with Brexit too when all these predictions of a great British future once the migrant labour leaves and British firms 'investing in their own staff' won't materialise. Big firms will just slowly relocate and the economy will be based around low wage gig economy type work.

| The game is on its knees. Shocking RFL directive. Rules that worsen the game every year.
Patheric Disciplinary panels that punish marginal late hits, as harshly as grabbing someones testicle!!
They want the games speeded up so players c are more tired. Then we get a Crap standard, and tired players mistiming tackles. We then have games ruined by sendings off, when no-one has even been injured. Then long bands for some of the only players who bring some excitement. (reverernce to Tetevano incicident in CC here)
Can't we go back to a tough, simple game?

Great 2 sentences.
The players are there unfortunately the coaching and tactics are not up to it.
How can a player like Austin be great up to getting injured in his first season, we bring Widdop in to complement him and his form falls off the cliff. I keep on hoping but am now coming to the conclusion he can’t wait to get back home.

As much as this is true, is it [ipurely[/i down to lack of attacking raw talent or is it also being coached out of players too? We seem to be capable of producing plenty of strong defenders and some very classic powerhouse forwards, but I'm struggling to think of backs (especially halfbacks) who can put on a little bit of magic... it's all very formulaic. Take Jonny Lomax for example: Very good, consistent player and considered one our best internationals. He just lacks those extra special moments of class that make you stand up and applaud.
Well I guess nothings going to change anytime soon, so not worth worrying about.
===
On a separate note - and I'm not sure whether this is of concern - the players didn't seem to celebrate Mamo's last gasp score with much enthusiasm. This is in contrast to Hull who acted like Tuimavave had won them the game on 70 minutes. The reason I mention this is because I've not noticed us [iseeming[/i a bit disinterested the last couple of years. Even when we've not been at our best there's always been a bit of over-egged back slapping when we score a try. This wasn't evident today.
Meh. Probably nothing in it.

| Where is the logic on moving Charnley to the left? The only thing I can think is that Price thought to move his next best winger to the stronger side of the field and write off the right.
If that’s the case, what is the point in picking backs on the right. Might as well sure it up with a good kick receiver and put a back rower on the centres to give some go forward.
Ironic that the last picks on the school playground scored the try that took us to golden point.

Hull played well in the first 2 games against some fairly mediocre opposition. Its just the pundits getting carried away, we are not 'the team to beat'.
We look a lot more solid than last year but still work to be done.
Agree about golden point, never liked it.
Also my initial impressions of the new ball steal rule are that I don't like. It just introduces yet another decision that is hard for refs to accurately judge.

Not always but some/most "Providers" do provide content that is "Pay Per View" for nothing which does make it illegal that's why they get searched for and shut down.
As for the game today I didn't watch it, but from what I have seen posted around the net it sounds like both teams played poorly with Warrington lacking in attack again.
I don't know what happened at the end but it seems some people are claiming that Hicks handed Warrington the draw just like the Challenge Cup
For me it is going to be a interesting season, because I want Warrington to do well but I also want them to go on a mass spree of losses to see if that get's Price and what appears his lack of Attacking gameplay style out sooner.

Interesting comment about Hicks but not sure what people are on about.
Looking at the match review panel report they found that Davis' challenge that gave Hull their first two points and called back Charnley on his way under the sticks for six points was not even an illegal challenge or worth the onfield penalty. So that was an eight point turnaround.
Hull's first try came in a set of six from a handover which should clearly have been a new set of six for Warrington after a Hull player obviously played at and blocked a Warrington kick.
I'm sure Hull fans could point to decisions that could have gone their way however I'm not sure they were as critical or clearly incorrect as the two above that would make a 14 point difference.
Surprised people haven't commented more on these.

| Silent 'disappointment' was my approach to the very good points made by Paul above. Don't really like criticising refs too much as they do not have the multiple angles and time to reflect like the commentators do.

| Perhaps there are too many rules for refs to police already & maybe the RFL should rein some back in. We see many rules ignored by refs every week in every game , such as forward passes , moving off the mark & not playing the ball properly.
