| Just before his shock retire he was playing the best football as he ever had...I used to tweet him the odd carrot msg about playing for the Wire. Off course he would never answer and I was pretty gutted when he retired like that.
The first thought in my selfish mind wasn’t about his welfare but about how miffed off I was that he’d never be a Wire.

| Yeah this is all good and well but we still need to sort the forward pack out. If Leilani Latu doesn't finally hit his potential (which i can't see happening) then we're still in the situation of needing a big 5h!t hot forward to help Cooper, Hill and Philbin. If McMeeken does sign for us i'd be alot happier. But i would be gutted if Inglis comes in but then Hill or Cooper or both get injured and we have a pack that can't get us moving forward and we get battered each week would be an absolute waste. This is such an exciting signing we need to sort a new forward out.
Get rid of Jason Clark and Mamo and go after a quality prop, imagine the pulling power this could have for us player wise. I hope we don't waste it.

| GI is TWO years younger than Bryson Goodwin. If Bryson had been with us this season we'd be ok with that I reckon?
Bryson didn't let us down.
Thurston is FOUR and Cronk 3.5 years older than GI and if we'd signed either today I'd be de-lovin-lighted....
This is astronomic. If Inglis is half as useful as Matty Ashton might be....

| Quote ="Saddened!"We were meant to be yeah. At the time, pre-apocalypse, it was suggested he would play for the reserves and provide cover for the first team on pretty much minimum wage as he wanted to return to the UK permanently and sort his future post-rugby. It was never announced however and there were never any pictures anywhere of him in the training kit, so hopefully we've avoided that one. The reserves have been disbanded for this season I believe for obvious reasons.
The signing we're meant to be making is one of James Tamou and James Graham. The former is a top player still and at 31 would be arguably the best prop in Super League. Graham would be more of a Rooney to Everton signing for a swansong season, but he'd still do a more than solid job and give us time to replace Thompson properly.'"
Tamou never been the same since Garb utt incident. Graham has slowed down considerably. Both far inferior players to Thompson....

| Stop me if you thinking that you’ve heard this one before. Another year another big signing. When will you ever learn that long term sustainable success comes from investment in youth. Give them time, patience.
Sign a promising young player from Widnes - play him at headingly against Konrad Hurral - fans write him off - sign Greg Inglis. It’s rather embarrassing.
But hey ho, enjoy watching his highlights from 6 years ago and get excited. Always seem to make the headlines signing players but only 3 teams make the headlines picking up the big trophy at old Trafford.

You are partly right, we do need to improve the quality of youngsters coming through and they ought to form the bedrock of our squad. But signing Inglis is more about bringing in a superstar and wowing the crowds than trying to buy a cup. SL is low on quality these days and desperately needs a shot in the arm if its to pull in the spectators and their hard earned money. Inglis has made the headlines in the press and on social media and that helps to keep the sport at the forefront of peoples minds. He should be a much better centre than Gelling as well, but that's a bit of icing on the cake.

Playing the best RL of his career? he was hardly playing due to his injuries. An headline grabbing signing thats a boost to Wire and SL. No need to lie about his performances that were obviously hampered by injury prior to retirement.
"South Sydney captain Greg Inglis has called time on his decorated career, losing the desire to play on after lingering shoulder, neck and knee injuries.
“I’m not looking at today’s announcement as the end of my career. I’m looking at it as the start of my next one,” Inglis said.
“I’ve been very fortunate to have had the playing career I have had, and to have played in some awesome teams with great team mates and under some great coaches. I want to thank them all for everything they have done for me and my family.
“This isn’t a decision I’ve taken lightly and over the last week, spending time with family and moving out of the spotlight, it has given me some clarity about the way forward for me and my family.
“People have always told me you’ll know when it’s time to retire from playing, and I know within myself that that time is now."
The Daily Telegraph reported on Sunday that Inglis will sacrifice the $1.5 million remaining on his two-year contact to alleviate the Rabbitohs of salary cap pressure and prove his decision is not motivating by money.
He reportedly earns $1 million a season but has been paid for six months of his 2019 contract so far.
After a meeting with club bosses Shane Richardson and Blake Solly, and coach Wayne Bennett, Inglis announced his decision on Monday morning at a press conference.
The 32-year-old will remain at the club in a part-time ambassador role.
Inglis was given a week's leave to combat his health issues and spent the time contemplating his decision with his family.
Dealing with arthritis in his right shoulder, Inglis has been unable to lift his arm above shoulder height.
A disrupted pre-season also saw him deal with a chronic knee issue, returning to training overweight as he was unable to run.

| Fantastic signing, all the credit has to go to the board and Karl for making this happen.
Loving the bitter Leeds and Wigan fans trying to pour cold water on the news. They'd both be having street parties if he was joining either of them.

| I have no more idea than anyone else how this will pan out BUT what a great signing, the anticipation is glorious. Already contemplating buying an extra season ticket for next season to bring friends and relatives to see a legend in action. The chunnerings of an occasional opposition fan only add to the delight.
The club deserve massive credit for daring to dream.
The only downside is I find myself wishing to fast forward to next season and at my age I can’t really afford to do that!

Without question. But both would be on par at least with most if not all in Super League. Tamou still averaging 100m+ and 20 tackles in the NRL and Graham would still put a shift it well beyond most. I'd be happy with either, but neither is a long term answer. We need a few signings over the next couple of years, be interesting to see where we go for those. There are a couple of really highly rated youngsters coming through again.

| I think this signing finally proves to me that the whole Warrington franchise is absolutely delusional. How anybody thinks this will enhance your squad is beyond be.
5-6 years ago the great Greg Imglis was the best RL player the sport had ever seen imho, but as I said 5-6 years ago, pre injury, way pre retirement....

| Regarding the salary cap. Four teams have won SL since its inception. 1 went spectacularly bust which tells its own story and between the other three the salary cap has been cheated 4 times...or is it 5? They will have to remind me. The absolute nerve to have a pop and suggest we're trying to buy a title. Every team would be pleased with this signing and theyre lying if they say otherwise.

I would be astonished if we off loaded Clark now....

He can cover multiple positions so adds value as a squad player. Fully fit he could arguably push Toby King for a starting spot in the centres.

Half of those players are academy graduates playing for the love of the town, the shirt and their people. Jamie Lyon was on a journey back to the game after losing his way and wasn't on insane money. And only one of those are overseas players, domestic stars were cheaper then as the threat of a move to the NRL wasn't really there. Also a bigger cap in those days as it didn't change for many a year after that, so actual bang for your buck was at it's peak then.
Plus we may have been caught making a couple of admin errors with the cap in those days too, so everything was clearly on max.
I think the reality is that all clubs in Super League are working outside of the cap. The RFL and their auditors don't really care. I always cite standing waiting for a football match to start in Winwick and seeing some very expensive and elaborate stone being delivered to Jon Wilkin's house. We joked at the time that we should check who paid for the goods. Super League clubs owners all have interests in multiple ventures, are SL really checking everything? No chance. Overseas player signs for a SL club for £120k a year. Gets paid £200k into an offshore account for 'consultancy work' 12 months after completing his contract when in the NRL/retired. Who finds that? So many ways around the cap, I'm sure a few will come out when players release auto-biographies or get broke and sell the story in the future.
