I think the question was aimed at the cost and impact on the cap if he came early and played this season, a proportion of his salary?

| Cheers ur.
I don't think he will.
But if he did then we obviously have room in the cap and goes someway in suggesting we have been under cap all season.

| So the ridiculous "marquee" player status could be frittered away on a player with mixed reviews who would not even have warranted a second glance 12 months ago. I don't think Rugby League needs to elevate also rans to god like creatures because they are Australian. For whatever reasons we've had our fingers burnt once already with an under playing southern hemisphere player , do we need to take that risk again on a player whose career seems to have more questions than answers.

| Sandow is a magician ,Joey johns admits he loves watching him play ,he is unpredictable and will make mistakes but, his kicking game is far better than what we have at the moment ,he can create tries from nothing ,if he plays to his potential ,he will be a wire legend

It certainly was. I thought the rule had changed in terms of a full salary now had to be included as we now use a rolling cap system. Back when we signed Joey the rules were different, we could afford in cap terms to pay him a fortune as he was only here for a few games.
If it is full salary, and as the marquee rule is not yet in place, his full salary (I picked £240k out of the air) would count on the cap. Pretty sure we don't have that much cap space to spare...?

| It was in the guardian a week or two ago that said we don't have any cap space as we are up to the limit. We couldn't even a afford a loan or two, so no chance of space for him!
The cap changed to a live rolling type system a few years ago. Not sure how it worked, with Joel it was the old system and we paid hicks off before the season started so that money did not count on the cap. That freed up space for Monaghan. We would need to de-register or get rid of some players to get Sandow in but I am not sure you can do that.

| I don't believe we are at full cap, and has been so for a couple of seasons, if not by much.
Furthermore TS said there is money available to bring in someone if needs be, so who should I believe, TS or the guardian?

Sandow is a cracking player and one of the most exciting half backs in Aus. Even average half backs who can't get a game in the NRL have had big impacts in Super League.
Look at Dobson, Dureu, Walsh etc. - they were nobodies over there.
As for Asotasi, he hadn't been a decent player since his 2008 injury. We should have known that.

| Would a way around not be to simply get him to sign a 3 month contract on Laitwaites wages and deregister JL for now.
His season is cooked anyway.

| You could de-register laithwaite and pay sandow his pittance on the promise that this shortfall would be made up next season seeing as a marquee we will be able to pay him whatever Simon Moran decides. I'd be confident of a double should he pop up in the next few weeks.

| Anyone criticising the signing of Sandow needs to give their head a wobble.
He is the very definition of a marquee signing.

| I must admit to being not too excited about the possibility of signing Sandow at first thinking we needed more of a leader, but the more I read about him and how he can get a team on the front foot in an instant with pace, boot or sheer flair he may well lead us around instinctively, also with him sticking to his principles and the manner in which the game should be played the more I'm won over.

| im very excited about this possible signing... as someone has already pointed out, look at the bang average, even poor NRL half backs that have come over to SL and been some of the best.... Then look at Sandow, who is 26, could have his best years ahead of him...... He is 2nd top assist maker in the NRL, even though he is 'playing badly' and is at loggerheads with the coach.
If he wants a team to play to his style, then thats exactly what he will get with us and from Smith... with a bit of love and freedom, he could easily be thing to have happened to us for years. A big game player brought in to win the big games.

| These bang average players don't turn out so bad given what Blake Green won, Travis Burns and Luke Walsh could do something this year. Scott Dureau (spelling), Rangi Chase, Tim Smith, Todd Carney and Michael Dobson aren't too bad.
They all come over without too much good press/form and generally go back on good form to decent contracts.
