| Solid replacement for Lineham, don’t expect him to set the world alight but at least he will not miss as many games suspended. Obviously has a good working relationship and familiar with Powell from his days at Cas. Can cover a number of positions also… does keep you wondering about Ashton though

| It's a good signing IMO, whether He starts or not I think our backline looks stronger for this signing. We need to sign another back I feel or at least give Ashton a contract for next season as well. Thewlis and wrench are good enough to be considered first team cover for next season but we are light beyond that at the minute unless we have some other youngsters coming through.

| At the start of last season we had, on paper at least, a backline consisting of Ratchford, Lineham, Charnley, King and Inglis with cover being provided by Mamo and Ashton. I don’t think that Thewlis or Wrench had made their first team debuts at this point. For next season we have Ratchford, Minikin, Charnley, King and Mata'utia with cover (confirmed) by Thewlis and Wrench who now have some first team experience. If Ashton is offered / accepts a new deal then we’re probably ok at the back and we should be looking to spend some of the remaining cap on a decent prop (although I’m not sure who’s available).

| You're maybe right, we look alright in the backs I think now.
If the rumour about Hill signing for another 2 years are is right and Bullock is also signed I doubt there will be any more signed in the front row. I would be happy with that I think. Bullock offers more than Sita, he does need to up his contribution from what I have seen of him in a Wigan shirt but our pack is better with him over sita IMO. I'm not sure where we could improve after that unless we lose any more of our players who are off contract.
Ratchford
Charnley
King
Matautia
Minikin
Williams
Widdop
Hill
Clark
Cooper
Currie
Holmes
Hughes
Walker
Philbin
Mulhern
Davis
Bullock
Thewlis
Wrench
Bullock
Longstaff
Dean
Butler
Doro
Harrison (if he isn't de registered due to his injury)
Gannon
Will thay be enough? Maybe a few youngsters will be (or have been) added to the first team squad for next season. Looks a good squad on paper for me although obviously Bullock is just a rumour at this stage, I suppose Hill is as well at this stage and this also assumes Darryl Clark will be staying.

| No Ashton CW8 and I thought Hill had already signed for Hudd's unless there's been a U turn?
FWIW I'd keep Ashton as I think he's got great potential if he can get an injury free run and I don't think Charnley's contract will be extended.

| Full Back: Ratchford, Thewlis
Wing: Charnley, Minikin, Thewlis
Centre: Mata’utia, King, Minikin, Wrench
Half Backs: Widdop, Williams, Ratchford, Dean
Prop: Hill?, Cooper, Philbin, Mulhern, Bullock?, Harrison, Butler
2nd Row: Currie, Holmes, Longstaff, Davis, Hughes
Loose: Hughes, Davis, Harrison, Doro
Hooker: Clark, Walker
Assuming Hill stays and Bullock signs we look ok at prop. I’m hopeful Minikin has been signed to cover that Mamo role and we still have a winger (or Ashton) to sign.
Only one overseas player in all those.

| We might look good for cover in the backs, but if we don't get Ashton signed up then I'm struggling to see any real pace in there and that worries me.

His stats on the Superleague site after a game are generally shocking, but that can be said for all of their prop stats in terms of workload, except possibly Harvard.
If he’s a straight swap for Sita it’s fine, if he’s a replacement for Hill I’m worried.

I'd keep Ashton as well personally. I thought I had included him but missed him off the list.
Somene on here mentioned Hill has signed a 2 year contract extension with us last week and I like that rumour so I'm sticking with it. It may well turn out to be wishful thinking.
I think we need a little more back row cover myself, or another couple of squad players. Depends whether there are a few 17/18/19 year old who look like they could be ready to step up.

I think there's some kind of issue between him n lam to be honest. He got 12min the other day he was not in the 17 until gildart pulled out n they wasted a subbto bring him into the 17 but not starting which is crazy. .

When he first went to Wigan he looked really good but has faded since wane left. New enviroment and coach, get him back to his best i'd be happy with him in the rotation

| Hilly has a bathroom business doesn't he ? I would guess it would be much more awkward to run / manage if he did go to Hudds. Plus would he move his family or commute ? either way it would be less appealing. I too quite like the rumour he has re-signed but have no definite info.

| Ideally for me Hill to stay and Bullock being a solid improvement on Sita but I suppose time will tell!
I would like us to keep Ashton, but his injury record isn’t great unfortunately for him.

I find this intriguing. Is it deliberate given relative lack of success in recent overseas signings or is it linked to where we are on the cap? Wonder if any other SL team has so few overseas players.

The calibre of players that are willing to leave the NRL to play Super League has diminished incredibly.
We, along with others have been burnt badly.

| I'm sorry but do people even watch the game. Bullock is Wigan's version of Sita but worse. He plays similar minutes, is the same liability in defence with slow movement laterally and doesn't have the impact where Sita can injure someone when taking the ball up.
Bullock wasn't even in the 17 man squad for the game at the weekend, he came in due to injury to Gildart. If he went straight into the side then Wigan wouldn't have lost a substitution from the permitted amount. Lam gave up a substitution to put him on the bench as he is rated so little. He cant get in, in front of there forwards who offer nothing as it is.
The one thing in common between both players is they were both ex wingers. I would rather have Sita than Bullock every day of the week

I'm not enthused by our signings either. I was pleased with Powell's appointment and liked the way he reshaped the Leeds squad and built a Cas team from bottom to top in 4 years without big money by picking up unheralded players, but it does feel like he's reassembling a Cas squad that was plateauing over here.
George Williams is a signing that could take us a step forward, the other guys are much of a muchness with what we already have and I have a nagging suspicion that by the time all the ins and outs are finished we'll go in to 2022 with a squad that is slightly weaker than in 2021. Of course rubber duckie will tell us its the greatest squad in history and will win the lot.

Unfortunately that's the limitations of a salary capped sport. We have given Toby a big hike to keep him. Money has got to come from somehwere to pay for it. Possibly Minikin on less than Lineham? I'm quite happy with the signings however I am worried about the front row. You win nothing behind a bad pack, what's the point in having Widdop and Williams with no props putting us on the front foot?
If you look back to years gone by, at some of the Saints top teams they had Danny Arnold and Joey Hayes (average players) on the wings as the money was spent on the rest of the team. Whether the game has changed too much i dont know. They were both decent finishers but not top quality by any means.
