Wait until they open the gate just after half time!

| A favourite ground for me as Saints supporters, we (Father in law and myself) went to watch Wire play Cas in a challenge cup tie replay, as there were no floodlights then, I think it was played on a Wednesday afternoon, when we arrived there were that many wanting to see the game the gates were closed, can anyone remember the score and what year it was played.

Correct. At the game last night somebody said 700 tickets + guests/coaches/players. Its gonna be snug !

I realise that the club always has the long-term welfare of the players in mind. Therefore, they ought to consider that three hours on a Thursday night removed from a revision programme isn't the end of the world. A lot of those lads are desperate to play in that match and to deny them the opportunity isn't really going to focus their minds all that well.
I'm all for education and looking after kids, but I honestly find this one baffling.

| The team will be announced during training on Wednesday.
The U15s can still do a job though, last seasons U16s beat the Cumbrian Academy relatively easily with a lot of U15s selected.
It would be a real shame if the last game at Wilderspool doesn't end in a wire win.

| It doesn't matter who wins.
What matters is how many of us are going to go onto the pitch after full time and do a run from the twenty yard line and score that match winning try (against the Pies that took us to Wembley) under the sticks of the fletcher end that we all dreamed of as a kid?
If we don't do it then, we will miss that final window of opportunity forever.
Or am I the only one who dreamt that dream?

You might want to reconsider this, unless you want a call from Op Yewtree.

| Which shirt should I wear? I'm undecided. Should I go new "Heritage" shirt to tip the wink at all those great players who played there in the past?...or should it be Greenalls, Miller, Vesta, Vladivar? Primrose and Blue or Red and Green?
Decisions, decisions

23rd Feb, 1972. I wagged school for the only time in my life with two friends and got in loads of trouble. We were in the 5th form at Appleton Grammar. The match was on an afternoon with a 2.15pm ko because of a miners strike and we couldn't use the floodlights. The gates were closed quite early and we beat Cas 11-5. On the previous Saturday we had drawn 8-8 at Wheldon Rd, in spite of Alex Murphy being dismissed very early in the game for breaking Cas full-back Derek Edwards's jaw. Edwards was a major attacker for Cas and they missed him badly. I went to that game with Naylor's coach tours from Stockton Heath and I'm sure the whole day cost about £1.50. That was the year we lost a semi final replay to Saints with a huge crowd at Central Park.

| Well that sucked, had a tear in my eye walking my way around to Fletcher street from the Bevan stand. Singing God bless my home, quietly to myself.
Strange how a pile of rusty ty metal and horrible cold crumbling concrete can mean so much to you. Whilst this isn't a dedication worthy of keates or anyone like that, I will say, goodbye Wilderspool....it's been emotional.

| Thought George m, Patel and roper were very good! Always be the best ground in the world, shame a walk around the terraces wasn't allowed. Wanted a quarter of black and rasps from the shop on the corner and to come home with some sweaty, wintergreen laden tie-ups

| I have been to Wilderspool at least 50 times since the last first-team game, so I have never really said goodbye. Every time since, it's never been the same as watching a full Wire game, but I have seen some crackers from u20's to Wizards and Aussie kids' touring matches.
It's like moving on from an old friend. You don't see them much anymore, because you've moved on and they'll never change, but you always know which pub the crusty old sod will be in if you ever want to go back and say hello.
Then one day, he's not there anymore. Tonight was very sad for that reason, but the game was of a very good standard and clearly meant a lot to all the lads who played.
There were TV cameras and interviews outside, which I presume will be on Boots N All next week and a real air of finality about the whole affair. I shunned the St James' entrance and walked over the bridge, down the causeway and down the Fletch one last time. Still no one was banging on the back of the tin shed. We talked about it, though. Ah nostalgia - always somehow, inexplicably, better than today.
Saturday the 31st of May is open day. Bring a wheelbarrow, go on the pitch, stand on the terraces, unscrew a seat. One last stand, but today was an excellent last ever game.
Warrington's Ryan Johnson scored the last ever try. The PA was so crackly that I could have sworn he said 'Brain'. How weird would that have been?

I thought he did say 'Brian' and almost spontaneously burst out with "Barmy Army".
Was a great last experience of Wilderspool. Would have loved to have been in the Fletcher end, but there's always the open day to say 'bye' to that.

| A definite tear in the eye and lump in the throat. I must've turned around at least 10 times for 'one last look'
Even without the singing and chanting, the place was filled with atmosphere

I thought the same, the concrete and corrugated iron just seems to generate atmosphere. Unfortunately the Halliwell Jones just doesn't possess the same soul. One little note of disappointment was that I didn't see Tony Smith or any of the senior players there (unless they were otherwise engaged).
Anyway personally very proud of the whole occasion as our lad skippered the side and I hope the spirit of Mike Gregory would have approved.

| Would be gutted if there was an open day on the 31st one day I couldn't get out of work. Would love a bit of the place. I know Cardiff city sold the lot by auction when their ground was knocked down.
The sad thing about the place is how untidy the place was given that it's still been in use for all those years. And what happened to a chunk of the seating. Seems the places has been broken into a few times looking at the scoreboard and Snookers side.
Shame it's going with a little bit of love and rebuilding it could have become the new base for Warrington town and other sporting teams in the town.
