| Best fish and chips we have ever had was in a little place called Seahouses up in Northumberland.
However for excellent fish bit closer to home try Yorkshire Fisheries in Blackpool.

Think I've been to the one in Seahouses Mark. Geordie will probably tell you that Hartlepool is full of good chippies, it's a fish and chip lovers dream.

No wonder if you have bolognese on chips
Believe me when you live abroad it's not average chain restaurants like Nando's that you miss, but a proper decent chippy.
Some of the best as people have suggested are to be found in the North East, but there's also a few left in Warrington such as the Cantilever, Panny's and Big Blue.

I must have been lucky because there was an excellent chippy in Chessington, and here in Winchester we've got an award winning chippy that does the best fish n chips I've ever had, just a pity the staff are so bloody miserable!

Has a sign saying best fish n chips in Britain but for once the sign didn't lie.
Fish in particular was epic. Very fresh.

| Trouble with London is the chippies tend to be Greek owned, they do it their way and it tends to be wrong.
Under done or too thin and usually the wrong oil.
No gravy is just a crime against humanity.
I remember years ago when I first came down here of getting off a bus if I saw a chippy, going in and asking if they did gravy, I must have been in way of 30 different chippies and not one did it. I ended up either getting chips and curry sauce or fish chips and peas because you should never have fish with gravy anyway and if you do you're wrong.

Greek CHIPPER (well said that man) next to the Hoop and Mallet in Callands has to serve the biggest standard portion of chips

It's open but owners have changed used to be an elderly Chinese couple who turned out great food - used to be superb but never any customers to be seen in there now. Not been in there since it changed hands so could be doing them a dis-service but it doesn't appeal somehow.
Fish at Orford Fryer is always good, chips can be excellent sometimes and other times just ok. They've got a Chinese takeaway section too now but not tried it so can't say what it's like

We went there whilst mourning the closing of Ackies last month on the way back from work, the portions were big but the curry sauce was god awful. Also tried Hood Manor which was decent but forgettable.
I managed to find 'Papa's Fish and Chips' on School Brow earlier whilst in town, I would give it an 8/10. I had chips and gravy, the gravy was spot on and the chips were done properly, a rarity in Warrington. From what I could see the fish was reasonably priced and looked/smelt very good, I expected it to be expensive. Two points docked for not using dripping and not doing scraps!

Not a frequent visitor as I don't live in Warrington, but, on my occassional visit to Grandma Rico's (unless for Sunday lunch) it's a fair bet that the chipper will be mentioned along with the greeting "I've newt in" as soon as the front door is opened ha ha.
BTW don't even start with Scraps v Scratchings

When my Great Grandad lived in Abergele he used to insist on us going to this god awful greasy place for him, rather than the really nice chipper down the road. We used to go to the latter and convince him that it was from the other!

I used to be fond of the captain's table a while back but last time I went there it ruined all of my memories of how good it was.
I always feel I get a better opinion of a chippy if I take the food open and eat it walking down the street or whatever. Whenever I take it home and have it with a proper fork, it all feels a bit wrong and I'm craving a polystyrene tray.

| Neptune in Stockton Heath used to be great with their crinkle cut chips. The Cantiliver is still going though, went there the other week for my tea which I took into Warrington Town and ate it whilst watching match.

| Is there any decent ones round Birchwood/Risley or even Culcheth way? I've recently started work around there, and was seriously craving some dinnertime fish and chips the other day.

| There's one smack bang in the middle of Culcheth, the roudabout in the middle look across and you'll see a few shops and a chippy there.

| My chip shop mission continued tonight at BIG BLUE in grappenhall.
In order to score these chippys fairly im going to be ordering the same from each one... So its steak and kidney pie, chips, gravy and mushy peas.
The chips were lovely, home made pie was decent as well... The gravy wasnt the best, the wife thinks its bisto... Mushy peas were, well mushy peas.
Over all rating 7/10
The wife had a meat and potato pie that didnt appear to have any potato in it.. She said hers was a 3/10... She wasnt amused... She still ate it all though.
Also nearly £12 for 2 pie dinners is a bit too much.. The same dish cost around £7 in dragon city.
So overall, not bad.... But not great
