why do we have to have someone who is not even in the final of x factor switch on our xmas lights, the whole thing is a joke now and has been for years, its more about Cheryl Cole now rather than actual talent, i do believe Leona Lewis & Alexandra Burke spoilt it by being so good that they can't get near that bar again so they get in comedy acts like Wagner & Jedward for ratings. Anyway back to the lights, why pay a fortune for someone you wont hear of again when i am sure getting heroes of the town like a certain Lord Tony or Mr Morley to do it at half the price or even free would be better as winning the cup 2 years on the run makes them a bigger name to this town than Lucy Jones or TreyC whatsherface.

Are there really that many that are great though? Do we seriously think there are lots of awesome bands/musicians that, but for the right chance, would be major stars? Or is the reality that most of them are a bit crap and that, if they were any good, they would make it. |

I reckon there is two or three that will be doing very well, very soon (in relation to how the music scene is nowadays). Nobody is going to be as big as Oasis or U2 anymore, if they do it'll be one in a generation. I just think if thousands of pounds will be paid to a agency/artist who has no connection to town and often on a publicity drive, it would be a lot better option to spend less on local talent. Perhaps less people will who the singer is, but true talent shows through and people will remember them.
A recent programme on ITV was 'Pride of Britain', why not reward the best of Warrington, by letting them be part of the proceedings.
An example of what Wigan are doing
