Agreed, for me he's too lightweight at the minute for Full back, needs put some weight on in the offseason if hes going to move there full time.

He just needs abit more weight on him. It's a frightening thought though, how good he is now to how good he will be in a few years - class.

Good to see some compliments for Wire fans, I know he's a little git, he gets on my nerves too, but he'll learn (hopefully).
I could carry on about how we've gotta alot of good young players (Sam, Eastmond, Myler, Harrison, Joel etc) to challenge the Aussies but I've just remembered who we've got as England coach

Tbh anybody who doesn't compliment him is the most biased Wire fan, he's brilliant, also he may be a little git, but he can take it.

| Quote ="magic piano"A few random thoughts from that game
1) Tomkins is along with Eastmond the most naturally gifted player to pick up a rugby ball from this country for many a year. If Macnamara has half a brain (debatable) he has to pick them both with one of them at FB in the autumn.
2) Wigan fans (who walked out of that ground tonight early) do not deserve to have a side sitting 4 points clear at the top of SL with 2 games to go.
3) Keith Mason may get 2 weeks rest before the play-offs start.
4) Fielden's emotions possibly cost Wigan that game.
5) Why have we signed Brett Hodgson?
6) Are Wigan bottlers? They have lost 3 crucial games now at home against Saints, us & Huddersfield where they dominated for large periods of the game, and at Leeds in the Cup when it was a similar story. Could be that they have lost the ability to perform in the big games which could be very interesting come the end of season...'"
One of my favourite posters on here, and all good points.
We certainly lacked composure last night, but with four players who still qualify at U20 level maybe that can be expected.
Someone said to me in the bar after the game, "That shows why we need those three Melbourne players"
Masons was a cowardly act. Having watched it again, he deliberately stood on Fieldens leg, but then went hiding out of the way and left Griffin to take the punches.
I think we all enjoy a bit of "biff" but that was way out of order.
On the walk. It happens every week win or lose with about 5 minutes to go. I sit in the West Stand and people go to beat the traffic, but that's their choice, it happens at EVERY ground.
I found the signing of Brett Hodgson a very strange one, why waste a quota spot on a 34 year old, who is renowned as "not being the best trainer"
For those fans of all clubs who can't see or appreciate the skills and talents of Sam Tomkins then, they are either blind or biggoted.

| Not really getting the comparison to Slater. Slater's searing pace, for mine, makes him a very unique fullback.
He relies quite heavily to get him into scoring positions and out of sticky predicaments.
Just to close off, I feel compelled to reference his chip-and-chase try in SOO, breathtaking.
Apologies for taking this off thread.

| Phil Clarke was very quiet at the end of the game again. You couldn't shut him up when they were wining.
Hodgson has been signed for his conversion kicking and for the fact that he is the finest exponent of the floating pivot role in SL. Smith has tried to use Mathers in the same role but he lacks the execution and decision making that is available from Hodgson (although to be fair he still does it well).

What he said.
In fairness to Hodgson, and Smith for that matter, anybody with a modicum of peripheral nous can understand the reasons for Hodgson's signing. As has been stated above, Mathers has been utilised as a third half, which has been a bit hit-and-miss. Hodgson will be an improvement in this area, even moreso when you factor in the point of us playing a non-ball handler at loose.
Arguably, his biggest plus point will address our real achilles heel; goal kicking. Despite Ben Westwood's incredible efforts, it must be playing havoc with our subs rotation, allied to that, it won;t be doing Ben's energy/fatigue levels any benefit across a whole season.

IIRC Didnt someone question why we had signed Solomona last year? and look what a difference he has made to the team this year

| Fans leave grounds early every week but we know it gives you all another chance to talk about and have a pop at Wigan so we let you get on with it!!
Better team won we turned over to much ball! Huddersfield are a good side when they have their first choice playing which they havent had for much of the season plus they were up for it after the way the previous 2 games had gone! They wanted it more and played the better rugby!

| Tomkins is all class, wouldn't get to giddy bout his try though, Louis did that last week. I think he is alos shwoing signs of maturity, he was trying to break up the fight rather than get involved.

Robinson has toolish* tendencies too. You can go back through decades and find that most quality halves were the same. Goulding and Edwards have already been mentioned but what about Gregory, Bishop, Martyn, Murphy, Woods.
*New word.

Deacon, Burrow and McGuire dont scare you as an opponent though. Bobbie Goulding, Iestyn Harris, Shaun Edwards, Kyle Eastmond and Sam Tomkins do. They are players that can win a game in a split second, thats why no one likes them!

| Don't agree that the better side won although i'm happy with the result. Wigan were the better side for most of the game and had 3 chances missed only because of Gamesmanship. Giants should never have won that game.
